I need to know how many belts and what they are use for on my 1968 Dodge Charger, 318 engine with power steering and air conditioning. The 1968 service manual has different figurations, but does not list which vehicle they are for. Thanks!

So you are asking for a guess? Reason I say that no one knows the way your 57 year old car is set up. Is it bone stock unmodified for sure??? Even knowing that there could be variants due to options. Posting some pics will help identify what each belt does and possibly some part numbers.

I only have a box of parts. Some of my parts were stolen, so I can't take any photos. I have rebuilt the 318 engine and now looking for parts to put it back together. All original with the car in 1968: 318 engine, A/C, power steering, automatic transmission. It had manual brakes, but I am going to convert it to power brakes. No power windows or door locks. Any help with the belts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I need information about belts under the hood for the fan, alternator, A/C compressor and power steering pump. Thanks!

The 1968 318 with air conditioning and power steering was originally equipped with three belts:

- Crankshaft rear pulley groove to water pump pulley and alternator pulley. This belt is a 15/32" section size, ~47.5 inches long.

- Crankshaft middle pulley groove to power steering pump. This belt is a 17/32" section size, ~42 inches long with a ~5.375 inch power steering pump pulley, or ~38.5 inches long with a ~5 inch power steering pump pulley.

- Crankshaft front pulley groove to air conditioning compressor single groove pulley and passenger side idler pulley (inside of belt) and driver side idler pulley (outside of belt). This belt is a 17/32" section size, ~53 inches long.

The following link on For A-bodies Only shows many pictures of the pulley/belt/bracket layout on a 1968 340 with additional pictures of a 1969 273, both with air conditioning and power steering. The 1968 318 is essentially the same. The power steering pump and corresponding pulley sizes can vary between Federal pump versus Saginaw pump. The pictures shows both, Federal in 1968 and Saginaw in 1969.
