I have a sad Christmas bike story,

My parents did not have much money and I wanted a bike for Christmas. It was all that I could talk about.
So my Dad got a old bike and worked very hard to make it like new. He sanded and painted the frame. Polished the
chrome and installed new tires.
When I saw the bike, I proclaimed that it isn't what I wanted and i wasn't ever going to ride it! I stormed off upset.
I never saw the bike again.

It was many years later that Mom told me the story.

The bike was painted Ford Blue. I should have known that he did it because I remember a guy giving him a case of
Ford Blue spray paint. He painted everything that blue for years.

I was about 7 at the time and I made amends with my Dad over it when I was 30. He was a tough man and never showed
emotions but told me it hurt him a lot.

I asked what happened to the bike. He told me that he gave it to another child that didn't have a Christmas at all.
Not even a tree or a stocking filled with candy like i received.
That's why I'll never forget it. I didn't have one before I got that one, my brother and I shared one. I did something like that when I was young and later hated myself for it. I know one thing, neither one of us did that again, it's called growing up. We were kids.................... You just made a thousand memories fly through my head. You're a good man and that I can tell, if you remember that to this day!!

In 87, I shipped about a hundred complete doors, hoods, trunk lids and fenders to the NY Police department in one shipment order from our plant, dodge diplomats. The expectation of a police car in NY, on the average fleet wide, going without some kind damage was a day!! Fact! Doors left open and taken off by a passing car was a biggy. This obviously did not include what they bought or sourced locally. They beat them like a rented mule!! LOL.

I got a job over a picture once. The man said, I'm told you can build anything from just a picture. I just looked at him as he pulls out a 2 inch by 2 inch picture from his desk drawer of a 12 foot convenience table he got out a better homes and garden magazine. Brass inlay, 3 inches thick with a 1/4 inch inlay piece, that ran all the way around with a trestle base. Believe it or not, that table bought me enough respect to last a lifetime. I worked there for 23.8333 years, till I was asked where I wanted to go. I said home.....
I would have loved to see that! There’s nothing more satisfying than creating something from nothing. As I wrote earlier, the journey is the best part. Frustrating at times but, when it all comes together, the end result is worth every minute. I’m no cabinet maker, I have made numerous projects and enjoyed every one. Keep posting those projects and we’ll all keep enjoying your journey and the finished product.

To me, it's never the medium you use, wood, metal, plastic, I don't care, it's the work you put into it. It had a 15 degree point on each ends. It was for the plant manager and it was there till the day the walls came down. The plant manager asked me on my way out the door if I wanted it. I was used as a gift maker for many plant managers, including Iacocca. I can't tell you how many stereo cabinets I built for plant managers all over the country with their product car stereos in them, with invertor's. Each plant would send them in for me to make. I had a great working career and enough memories to last a lifetime. I was in the right place at the right time, I've been blessed in many ways.
