Under Dash Brake Spring

So the car I am working on is a 70 charger with power brakes. was always a power brake car. Now I think I got my brake issue almost solved, thankfully. But I am thinking the brakes are not releasing as quickly as they should. It feels like they stick a little bit. Now, the brakes were all redone and only have a couple hundred miles on them, all new springs on all 4 drums. I am going to check my booster push rod length this winter to make sure I set that right when I put the new booster on but I think I am missing a spring under the dash, and I dont know if that may be contributing to my brake delay coming off issue.

So I know there is a spring that is somehow connected to the brake linkage under the dash, I dont believe I have that spring.

Can anyone tell me where the spring connects too and what it does?

I just finished a complete rebuild on my Charger brake system - granted a 72 - but there are no springs in the peddle assemble that I'm aware of. Peddle return is primarily based on springs in the power assembly and master.

If your brakes are not fully releasing and you have to pull up on the brake pedal or wait slightly, your pushrod length is to long. There is no under dash spring.

Well.... Actually there is a spring... But it doesn't effect pedal free, it's supposed to prevent a rattle... I'e had cars with it & without it... Haven't noticed any difference in pedal feel or rattling...

Maybe he over tightened the linkage fasteners.

If the right parts are being used that can't happen, the bell crank assembly has a sleeve inside that is longer than the bell crank and the actual pedal pivot is free floating on one end, the clamping is only of the sheet metal of the bracket, not across the bracket..

The reason some cars don't have that spring is because it's a royal PITA to install from under the dash.

Out of all of my mopars over the years I’ve only had one with that anti rattle spring.

Yes an anti rattle spring. It pulls straight up on the rod. That won't help it return.

Most likely for avoiding warranty rattle problems.

so it is an anti rattle spring... good to know! well once I put it away for winter storage I will go about adjusting that push rod length! thank you so much for your help!

You must not have known any 2nd Lieutenants in the Army. One installed 7 D cell batteries in a radio that required only 6.

So, never say it can't be done.
