So… in 2025, what’s the best electronic ignition conversion?

I just put in an Ignitor II. Stock coil, stock ballast resistor. Runs fine

Another dual point was in my car.

I had the OE number dual point for my 66 Hemi in a box with points missing. So I did the upgrade on that one.

Very simple install. I cleaned and re-lubed everything ... Before and after:

The problem I see above with the Ignitor 2 is poor cyl-to-cyl timing accuracy. Purpose designed elec ign systems such as mag trigger use reluctors with sharp points for accurate triggering.
The Pert looks like it uses the high point on the points cam lobe to trigger. Since this rounded, & probably worn, I cannot see how it can trigger accurately for each cyl.

If you understood how a Hall Effect switch works, then you'll understand that the shape of the sensor or trigger device doesn’t matter......

The broad nose on the points cam is not going to give accurate timing, such as a properly designed interrupter wheel with sharp, defined edges would give.

I do .....want to have a test??......read the treatis re Hall effect switch vs Hall sensor......they're not the same.......

I'm going to skip most of the posts and say:
¹Best and most flexible: Progression Ignition, hands down, nothing comes close except a full EFI management system.
²FBO ignition system, mine was flawless and was especially helpful with the 6bbl setup.
³Pertronix Ignitor points conversion kits are the best, and I have a Pertronix Ignitor III billet aluminum full ignition system on the Tripower 428 in the GTO. It's really nice, but I'm probably leaving power untapped from not tweaking it for optimum performance.
That last sentence takes me back to my first recommendation, Progression Ignition. It can do EVERYTHING and doing it is so much easier.

GM HEI is best bang for the buck when used with an E core coil. GM HEI has adaptive dwell, Mopar ign does not have it. Dwell becomes important when more cyls [ 8 ] have to be fired at higher rpms. That is why dual point dists were invented...but HEI fixed that overnight.
A lot of spark energy is lost with a canister coil, see below.

Since the whole Covid thing came and went, it sure seems like prices leap-frogged more than usual. I saw the FBO boxes listed for $370 now ….



If I were buying new, I would absolutely look elsewhere.

Did I read that wrong? I see $339.

Somewhere at Carlisle I saw a vendor selling just the ignition modules for $370. Even with a coil, $329 feels steep.

It’s too high for just that.
Then you add a distributor.
If you get their billet, it’s even more money.

The Blaster SS coil IS an E core coil. # 8207. Have one on a car that runs 119 mph in the 1/4, MSD # 83647 HEI module, Iridium plugs, 0.070" plug gap.

Lately been converting to EFI, locking out factory type and re-phasing the reluctor or using the lean burn distributor, the EFI controls the advance and triggers a CD ignition box.ow are you re-phasing the reluctors?

The Leanburn seems to have about a 45-degree phase. on a stock distributor locked out, re-drill the reluctor pin slot about midway between the teeth.
