Are you a 0-60 guy or a top speed guy?

I took a friends Kawasaki GPZ-1100 up to 141 mph (according to the speedo), when the thought of a front tire blowout went through my mind. Right back down to 60 mph, and never ventured past 75-80 on two wheels again. I'll be plenty happy if my coronet breaks 110-115 in the 1/4 mile.

Those bikes get up to ludicrous speed insanely fast & it can get you in a lot of trouble if you don't have your **** together..

Here in the US the police have no authority in parking lots, Private property...

In Florida they most certainly do.
The caveat is, if the general public is allowed vehicle access, all traffic laws apply.

Where I live it’s “unreasonable acceleration”, the last one I got was $20 although that was a very long time ago. I pulled out of the gas station in my ‘70 Charger and lit ‘em up, through the haze I noticed a cop right behind me. I thought maybe he didn’t notice, then he lit me up. Doh!

It's no fun when you see the blue lights coming through the cloud of tire smoke! It happened to me in my Little Red Express truck.

A decade? back on 175 north of Miami there was a horrible rear end collision after midnight between a bike and a semi. The news reported body parts on the closed roadway for nearly a mile. The police interviewed a witness, another biker and was asked how fast if he knew was the deceased biker going?
"Over 175 mph" was the response. The LEO asked him how he knew that?
And the response was "he passed me when I was doing 175"
There was no mention whether the biker was wearing a helmet.

It's jarring to see the bunch of bikers around here during river events, not wearing helmets.
Helmet use has been mandatory in california for almost 35 years.
I can't imagine riding without one.
Heck, I'm told I should wear one in my street cars (roll bars or cages.)
That's not happening except at the drags.

A guy on my Island, designed and built the worlds fastest bicycle. 83 mph. Since bettered by a Dutch university team with a rider who can crank out a bit more than 1 hp.
800 watts.
Nearby everyone needs a 1/4 drag strip, and a dirt track for midgets and speedway bikes.
At the road race track, top speed is just a number. The exciting stuff is everywhere else.
But 150 plus on two wheels, every couple of minutes, is something worth talking about.
Once upon a time, about 1955, the first six seat sedan to do 100 was a Ford with the 312 T bird motor.
I put one of those engines in my 37 Ford hearse, and we topped out at about 105.

Most of the modern fast bikes do the quarter in the low tens, and top out at 155 to 180. For a street bike, there is not much sense or need, for anything quicker.
Take it to the track, and find out how slow you are, compared to the fast guys.
Most of the stroker set should learn to ride on smaller bikes, but they usually claim they are gifted, until they crash, often.

Do you remember that incident back in the '70's where a Mark 1 Zephyr launched across K' Road after boosting up Newton Gully at what was estimated to be 100mph? Airborne for at least 50 meters .....landed in a park.

Made the national news back in the day.....and I was still living in the Manawatu then.

I took my 1967 Coronet R/T station wagon up to 130 mph. (indicated on 150 mph. speedo), one night to see what it would do. I think I shook for about an hour, afterward. 440, 4-speed, and 3.55 gears.

Definitely acceleration over top speed, but at 74 I’m not much of either one anymore. Although I’ve drive a 4-speed for 54 years I don’t trust my speed shifting skills much anymore either (such as they were). Open the throttle a bit in 2nd and 3rd and then settle back and enjoy the rumble and ride. In my daily driver RAM, I’m that guy on the highway locked on the speed limit. At least I try to stay to the right.

This. Acceleration, as it is different than 0-60, at least in my mind. Starting point and end point is immaterial. It’s the shove-you-back in the seat thing.

I probably have not done WOT from a dead stop on the street in 40 years. My minivan will spin tires from a stop. Just doesn’t do much for me. But from a 15 or 20 mph roll, yes. Or from a 60mph roll.

It's the 1320 for me. I've done most everything from seeing what top end is, road courses, auto cross, and the 1320, better known as the 1/4 mile. Even tried a little dirt track. Now in my late 70's, just short bursts of acceleration and going through a few gears is thrilling enough. Went to a small local show Saturday and there was a nice straightaway and a burst from 55-90 in 4th was enjoyable, and on the way back a WOT from 2nd through 3rd was enough for the day. The top 25 trophy for my old 67 R/T at a Corvette Club sponsored show also helped my feelings.

I have the same ban, I was heading towards motorcycles but then crashed a scooter I modified pretty badly and STUPIDLY (even after a safety course etc), decided I might not have enough common sense to ride those things

Lateral G's were insignificant, (hopefully zero) but how about a 0-108-0 of 12.5?
(Trying to get to the first turnout. Usually successful).
