I think a good practice would be to buy cylinder heads from a machine shop that goes through them before they send them out. If your spending a thousand or 2 on heads. I think a few more hundred isn’t a big deal.

Here’s what I wonder about; if a uncoated steel shim gasket can seal deck to cylinder head with factory machined surface. Why can’t a coated with some fancy sealer mls gasket can’t do the same?

I was looking at the pics of your lifters before resurfacing. It appears that at least 1 had the wear pattern clear to the edge. That would clearly be scraping the oil off the cam. Maybe you have a loose lifter bore, allowing the lifter to tilt in the bore or a bore that was machined wrong?
