    Re-Rebuilding the 440-493 in a 1970 Charger

KD, refresh my memory, since posting about the lower oil pressure, have you switched or shimmed the relief spring?

    9 keyway billet timing set

1 - The good news: you can put the cam timing just about anywhere you want when decreeing the cam. 2 - The bad news: the manufacturers aren’t compelled to actually make them right, because of #1 above.

    Silly Engine Lift Plate Question

I wasn’t going to bring it up, but glad you did. The side load stress, particularly when going diagonally bolt to bolt with a chain with a flat angle, is incredible. Far more likely to snap than 4 - 5/16-18 bolts in tension.

Had one of those. Sold it. To each his own.

    Silly Engine Lift Plate Question

I think tensile for 5/16-18 gr.8 is 7,800 lb. Like Mike pointed out, proof load is 6,300 lb. To the OP, use what you like, but there is no reason to be concerned about the bolts.

    440 Harmonic damper

If there was such a balancer, one that had the necessary dimensions to work, except the timing mark off 15 degrees, we would hear about it weekly on every Mopar forum out there.

    440 Harmonic damper

Good. Check and measure the balancer. Then you’ll know for certain, and can take the next step with confidence.

    440 Harmonic damper

    1. It is not possible to put on an incorrect balancer. 2. The balancer outer ring could spin. 3. I don’t know if a screwdriver in the plug hole is very accurate. The piston does not move much +/- 1” either side of TDC. 4. 1” is 15 degrees. It doesn’t explain why you need 40 degrees for...

    440 Harmonic damper

Is the piston 1 inch down in the bore at TDC, or is the Balancer off by 1” from the TDC mark?

    440 Harmonic damper

Did you use a piston stop or a dial indicator with the head off. How did he check?

    440 Harmonic damper

I really don’t understand what you did to come to this conclusion. Please elaborate on what you did to establish true TDC and the evidence that it is incorrect by 1”.
