I just ordered the parts through Mega Parts, thanks for the tip. Yeah I know what you mean about Canadian customs, I ordered some XKE parts out of California recently and those parts spend over a month in customs alone...I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one.
Does anyone know where I can buy upper and lower bearings and bushings for '70 Roadrunner, Automatic on the column. The bearings are my main interest but might need a complete kit including coupler. Thanks
If I go with gasket and sealer, I'm guessing I need to put sealant on both sides of the gasket? I read that Ultra Grey RTV is a better alternative to aviation sealer or should I go with AS #2. thanks for all the feedback
I need to change the gasket on a Suregrip rearend, do I need to add any sealant or just replace gasket? I see lots of work here (disconnect drive shaft, remove axles etc...) and don't want to have to revisit. Thanks

I had the timing set to 12 previous to replacing the ballast with no luck, all I know is when I replaced it the ping went away. I noticed the resistances were different between ballasts...it is also possible that there was a loose connection.
Problem solved, thanks for all the great feedback and inspiration. Replaced the stock ballast with the one from the kit (doh), set the timing to around 12 degrees btdc and voila, runs like a beast. I'm pretty sure it was the ballast.
Anywhere above 15 degrees I get lots of pinging, anywhere below 15 degrees I get a slight ping that doesn't appear to go away upon lowering the timing. The engine runs like crap (hard acceleration) if I use the starting 5 degree recommendation (carbs adjusted). Do you know what is the...
