You are overthinking it. Just from the spring pressure you listed run the hydraulic roller cam with a matching roller lifter. One thing to be mentioned that many of the retro hydraulic roller lifters have warnings in them about using the correct weight engine oil so the lifter operates...
From my experience the issue is not the oil or oiling it is the way the tapers are ground on the cam lobes and lifter. You can take a small file and cut a groove in the block lifter hole to increase the oil flow. Used to do it on engines with big flat tappet cams worked very well.
For anybody wanting to play with engine combinations use a computer dyno program, I use Performance Trends Engine Software. The software is reasonable to purchase and much cheaper than buying a bunch of parts that will not like each other. I have a flow bench and if you put good numbers in the...
Sorry been fixing, selling. building cars for over 50 years. Seldom do I see a person concerned with numbers matching that was not concerned about resale value or just enjoying the car. And I also get a lot of people saying a car is matching numbers when they don't look at the things that...
When you buy a car numbers matching and are worried about resale value only, you are investing in a collector car just like a person that invests in stocks. Just like stocks prices go up and down on many factors. With a collector car, prices recorded at auction are just as dependent on matching...
It depends how serious you are about racing and how many RPM's you expect to shift at. The pictured side cover is what is called detent and interlock system, gives you feel of when the gear has been engaged and keeps the transmission from trying to go into two gears at once. I would be very...
In the late 70's I was a mechanic at a Chevy dealership. Guy was pulled in with a 69 Chevy flatbed truck with a load of watermelons, and a blown engine. We kept GM crate engines in stock back then. Service manager at 3:00pm said extra $100.00 if you stay and put the engine in. At 7:00pm it...
Buy the suregrip differential, and before you take the old ring and pinion apart measure the backlash, since the pinion does not need to be removed the pinion depth will not change. Install the ring gear on the new suregrip and set back lash where it was before, making sure the side bearing...
In High School our drivers ed course was supported by the local chevy dealer, the school had a 1972 Impala with dual brake controls for the instructor, when I took it. When I graduated, I went to work at the local Chevy dealer and one of the things I did was prep those cars for the Driver Ed...
I always have been a Mopar guy, but a lot of my friends were and still are Chevy people. I worked at a chevy Dealership from 1976 to 1983, so a lot of the muscle cars came through the dealership to be serviced. To be honest when comparing Mopars and GM vehicles of that time, GM built a higher...
Cam or lifters are not machined properly; there is no rotation of the lifter. I have seen this on dozens of engines last couple of years. You can use any oil you want but on a flat tappet cam if the lifter does not spin on the cam lobe as it rotates it will simply not last. And I made the...
You have to collapse the magnetic field in the coil to generate a spark. That is what a set of points does. So HEI, Chrysler electronic, Petronix all use a transistor to make the field collapse and generate a spark. With these style ignitions you get one spark each time. And the amount of...
