Which style(cherokee, challenger, etc.) manifolds will fit on a new hemi in a 69 B-body with stock front suspension?

Ive been looking at a set of SRT8 manifolds, but not sure if they came off of a car or a jeep. But not clear of which style fits better.

Thanks!

Power or manual steering?

Power Steering. Using Eagle heads with the 'D' shaped 6.1 style exhaust port windows.

I'm not sure, but I think the box is gonna determine what manifold you use. Check over on fabo, those guys got their stuff in order.

I no longer have a stock suspension, installed an AlterKtion, but I have a 5.7 in my 70 GTX, which is the same engime compartment anyway. I ended up using the stock manifolds. I called TTI and their engineer told me straight uo that he could NOT make a set of headers for my car because he could not get a clean enough bend around the starter motor. My engine came from a car, not a truck. As is is, I cut a circular "notch" out of the frame rail and welded a piece of thick walled 3" dia pipe in place so the flange at the collector (manifold to exhaust pipe) would clear.
Since I now have a power assisted rack and pinion I cannot comment on that side, mine has plenty of room there now.

I asked GDemon over on FABO about this since he has built a couple of Gen III Hemi B-bodies.

He said that the Jeep Grand Cherokee manifolds will work. Both the standard and SRT8 versions.

He said that the car manifolds may work also. The car SRT8 manifolds hit the steering box but are good on passenger side. It may be possible to use the SRT8 car manifolds if the heat shields are removed and a tap of a hammer here or there. But I cannot say for sure.

So the Jeep manifolds will work.
TTI's, Hooker-etc. may be another option.

I also ran into the problem of header clearance. We are trying to install a 6.1 into a 68 dodge charger. We got our motor from a 2006 Chrysler 300 and TTI had told us about the starter issue. So we ended up going with the Alterktion rack and pinon set up. We now have alot of clearance on the drivers side (eliminating the steering box). However we had to notch a part of the frame on the passenger side to clear the stock exhaust manifold when dropping in the motor.

That's interesting, I have an Alter-K, a LX 5.7, and Jeep SRT8 manifolds in an Early A ( the smallest engine compartment of them all) and zero fitment issues. The only clearancing issues was with the 545RFE. I had to cut off the starter hump on the passengers side.

I'll be testing up a 6.1 in a stock front end 68 B-body with Eagle Manifolds soon.

The problem with the SRT8 car manifolds is when installed they point directly as the torsion bars - I went with TTI headers on mine (mistake - they don't fit for ****)

never had issues with the ones i installed

So are you saying that you have installed SRT8 car exhaust manifolds on a b body successfully?

Were there any mods necessary or problems encountered?

Can you post some pics?

Thanks!

Mine had to be dinged to clear the TTI motor mount adapters, AC compressor, and torsion bar... I notified them of this and they were, as to be expected, not helpful... so they will not be getting any more of my money - When I Sh!t out around $900.00 for headers - I shouldnt have to ding them to fit like a $150 header...

cut the one ear off the compressor and that will clear.
do some rework on that steel plate tti uses for that adapter and they will also clear
and i have seen some have minor issues with the starter stud. depending on what starter you use.
never seen issues with a torsion bar.

i would also not ding a set of 631 dollar headers and be happy.
i also think some cars are crooked from the assembly line and years of abuse. making each car and chasis unique. cant blame tti for that.

at least they have something to offer us.

I have a 1968 Charger with a 6.1 and a AlterKtion, the TTI setup was no problem, I am using a 545rfe trans and a mini starter.

I cut the mounting boss off the compressor... the tube HIT THE COMPRESSOR body itself... inexcusable. Also - why the hell do I have to modify THEIR parts to fit THEIR headers ? Give me a break... I shouldn't have to pay for the privilage of doing their R&D work...

For over $900 I should of just made my own headers...

I plan to make my own headers for this very reason. For $200 you can get all the tube bends you need and just take your time routing to where ever you want the tubes. A friend of mine just did this on a custom rock crawling jeep to clear his suspension etc. Cost him about $180 in parts off summit racing start to finish and are extremely cool looking.

My second option was the jeep srt8 manifolds which I have yet to price out.

The other thing I have going for me is I am making my own engine mounts which pretty much prevents anybody's off the shelf solution from being mine.

i agree on the make em yourself idea. problem i have is time. for me, time is money. so i need to actually think about stuff some.

i decided ill have to buy the TTI parts for mine. i have no a/c nor the power steering.
should have in my opinion minimal issues.

if i do, ill eat my words and also post up my experiance with the TTI headers.

I have the TTI headers and mounts, no issues what so ever.
