so in my 78 cordoba i have a 4 brl 360 whit sometype of leanburn system that uses hot air and advances ignition.

since where im at we dont have emision testing i cant care less about it and since its bad for power i would like to remove it.

im thinking im going to have to get rid of the electronic distributor, and remove the hot air into intake port and unplug the pluged cold air port, remove the air pump, and retune the carburator.and what else should i do?

anyone ever did this?

If the lean burn is working, you might consider leaving it. They were one of the first electronic engine control packages, and improve the efficiency of the engine, helping power and fuel mileage.

Back in the day, they got a bad rep because they were different and unfamilliar, plus nonone really knew how to work on them.

If you are going to be putting aftermarket parts on, that's a different story...

http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/leadfoot/leanburn.htm has all the details. You can buy one of the electronic ignition kits from Summit, Mancini, etc. or just buy the parts individually at your local parts store.

Basic Steps Involved
-Remove the leanburn junk.
-Remove distributor cap-leave sparkplug wires attached.
-Crank the engine so your distributor is pointing to a handy reference. #1 fr'instance.
-Replace distributor with new vacuum advance distributor, set rotor as per above.
-Rotate distributor so pickup coil pole piece is lined up directly with the nearest pole on the reluctor.
-Reinstall distributor cap.
-Install the ECU box. Use the stock location, the holes are already in the fender!
-Choose a location for your ballast resistor. Remember, this sucker gets hot, so keep meltables away from it.
-Plug in the ECU connector, and plug in the mating connector to the distributor.
-check the wiring color codes for your vehicle and for the parts you have. These color codes did change, and in some cases the same color coded wire may have been used with a different pin assignment. Following this, all color codes are from my own reference material and may not match. With reference to the above diagram, the alternate color code for pin 1 has been used on pin 3 in the five wire harness.

When they added MTBE to gas a few years ago (now replaced with ethanol) my 78 318 4 speed runner (a lean burner) would lean surge on the highway.

not a good thing
