71-74 Charger Bird Clone

The factory was going to do this but pulled out on the project. They look great this way. Ifs funny how much the 71 Plymouth Superbird design looks almost like our modern jet fighters.

I thinkt he 71s would have been the most aero dynamic cars in racing if they would have done them.

I believe the reason they didn't build them was because nascar outlawed them, because they were so fast. The first time around a super-speedway (talladaga in sept of 69) Charley Glotsbach went 15mph faster then every other brand.

I think it was talked about on the board some where. You're right they did out law them or was going to make them run a smaller motor. Also the sales were not great for these cars.

I think a Daytona went way over 200MPH and was it Buddy Baker who was driving it? The Superbird if I remember right was more aero then any other car.

the only way to beat the bird was to ban it. after the 1970 domination of the wing cars, nascar decided teams could not mix the 426 with the wings, so the plug was pulled. for 1971 the wing cars (the 69-70 B Body) were allowed to run but were limited to 305 CI, which a couple teams did. teams chose cubic inches over aerodynamics. had nascar not stepped in, there for sure would have been a run of the newly designed 71 B body wing cars.

I think they look great when done right. But they can be one of the absolute shittiest lookin add ons if done haphazzardly. I also think they look better with the nose, but don't necessarily have to have the nose to look good. It's all in the execution. I remember the little green A body Barracuda everybody ragged on over on FABO. Although the car could have been done better, I thought it looked ok. I also think most people that ragged on it probably didn't even have a car.

I agree Rob and it looks like some of the kits out there are well worth the money and have a reasonable prices.

Buddy was in a Dodge Daytona. Which was noted by the wind tunnel guys to be a faster shape than the Superbird, but only by a hair.

This one? I like it. View attachment 94783

Some people just don't like the wing at all, I'm NOT oneof them :)

That doesn't work for me. Something is wrong, the lines are wrong. It just doesn't look right.

I thought exactly the same thing when I saw a Daytona for the first time...

You're right.....and I can tell you the spot. Where the sail panel meets the top of the quarter. There's too much of an angle there. If the sail panel were to meet the quarter farther back, it would appear more like a Superbird. I still think it's cool. I can tell you this. I call myself "fair" at bodywork. Whoever did that little car is a WHOLE lot better than I am. Whether you like the car or not, you have to give them credit for execution.

i love the 69 70 wing cars they are sweet ..Gary and Pam and there wing cars are beautiful ever though of putting the nose on yours ?

this charger with the front end and wing is my personal favorite ,Gary and Pam ,have done so much for the mopar fans ,they even did a build for a cancer victim and friend ,to make his 66 dart and make it into a hot rod .it was completed andELI GOT DRIVE AND ENJOY HIS DREAM BUILD ...The two builders that built the wing 71 cars have such talent and should be highly noted as the best conversion of 71-74 Charger wing CHARGER CARS out there.........
