Im in the process of restoring a 70 Superbee. I have almost all the parts needed for a restoration but Im confussed about 1 thing in particular. I plan on using Fat Mat throughout the interior & where ever else I can also. my question is this. Since Im using a sound & heat deadener should I also replace all the factory insulation? Or by me using the Fat Mat will I not need the factory type insulation at all anymore? Thanks in advance because I know you all will give the answers I need.

I would not do both. New high tech stuff is better.

I did three methods. Spray on deadener in the doors and rear seat quarter areas, dynamat on the floors only, and the factory insulation where it was originally, cowl/firewall, seat divider, kick panels, and headliner, but I am not doing a massive stereo system in the car either and not looking for perfectly quiet ride so it was less expensive this way. And to my surprise, its very quiet inside!

What did you use for spray deadener? I was gonna dynamat every thing, but definitely down to save a few bucks.

I would say use both.........my reason: I purchased my first Mopar in late 2012..a 70 RR......after driving it around this past summer (I live in Michigan) I realiized that Chrysler did not pay much attention to making their vehicles very quiet back then.....I am a long time owner of GM classic vehicles my latest being a 72 442 and a 78 Chevy van and both (with the factory insulation) were a lot quieter then the Roadrunner. So my opinion is use whatever you can afford in the way of aftermarket insulation products and use the best factory type over that......which pretty much amounts to carpeting with thick padding....LOL
As for aftermarket insulation products...if you are doing a frame off I suggest using Lizard Skin spray on products...they have heat and sound products.....they work probably better then any other but only can be used in a frame off situation since being a spray on product and can be sprayed anywhere......under carriage, on the floor, front & rear of firewall, inside doors, trunk area, etc.....and can be painted over so it all looks like factory and/or custom. And you can (if you want) place more sound products over that.......I plan on using sound matting products in my 70 RR....the quieter the better.........

I used Evercoat Automotive Premium Rubberized Undercoating and sound deadener spray on the inside of the doors and rear quarter section. That's the only place I used it. Basically sprayed it on the inside of the outer skins and on the quarter also sprayed on the inside of the outer skin and the outer wheel well housing. If you have the mechanisms out of the doors its easy to apply.

Not sure how much weight is a factor, but the high tech new stuff is better, expensive, and HEAVY!

I use Lizzard Skin inside AND outside on my 70 GTX. I used both the sound deadening and the heat insulating products. The car is so quiet inside I scared myself when I could hear myself thinking! If you are doing a rotisserie type build it is the way to go because you can spray this stuff where you will NEVER be able to put matting of any kind. I had the car in the direct sun on a 95 degree day. You could not touch the roof on the outside but could not feel any heat on the inside, of what, 18 ga steel? Awesome stuff
