I'm fairly new to Mopar engines. What I have now is a E383 no# on eng o6o/ 9-25-2 . My buddy's dad has two 392 hemi's out of '50 era cars. The 383 runs good it will scorch the tires. I amonly making a driver, it is not stock . I think its a mild build back in the day. I think I can get one of the Hemi's. What are your thoughts? View attachment 208313

I would buy any old 392 hemi if I had the opportunity and the price is reasonable, just remember parts are harder to come by and more expensive for this motor, but it will just look cool as hell as well.

Pick it up, then decide what and when to do with it......

Grab 'em both if you can, what to do afterwords will come easy! :headbang:

what are they worth don't want to insult him. both where running eng.thank you.

think be lucky to get one. lol

Best to ask him what he thinks they're worth and negotiate down from there, too low an offer and he may just discard any notion of letting them go. Since he has 2, I'm sure he knows the expense it cost to repair these motors when needed. As for $$ worth, hmmmm, not sure

Don't let him think the have any value anywhere near a 426

in my opinion, maybe what you can pick up a good stock 440 for, I could be wrong

Great advice, always get a starting number from the seller. ;)

If you can find a complete running 392 under 3k ,you're lucky.

Check out hot heads web site there swap meet section there are prices for 392 listed and they very in price. They are hard to find not stuck and usually bring good money.

No nearly as much and if it the early one with the bell housing cast as part of the block,a lot less.

In the Chrysler engines, the only ones that had extended bellhouse were the 331 C.I. None of the 354 or 392 had that. The small Dodge hemi's are in demand for the street-rod crowd. ..................MO

Around here $2700 buys a '57 392 (not stuck but not running either) to give you an idea.

What 5wndwcpe said is pretty much right. If you can get a rebuildable 392 for less than $3000 better pick it up if you want one. The others aren't worth near as much. The 354 goes for around $1500 to $1600 give or take. Just be sure and run the numbers to make sure its a 392. The 331 Chrysler 1951-1953 have the extended bellhousing but I think hot heads has adapters for them too. The little Dodge and Desotos are usually in the less than $1000 range and they fit in street rods easier since theyre much smaller blocks. The racers blew up thousands of the 392's in the 60's and the nostalgia dragster movement today has really made the 392 hard to get. That's why they bring so much. The 392 was only built in 1957 and 1958. I am clearing out all my Desoto 276/291 motors and parts if anyone is interested. They are tough old motors. Oh...and they love nitro! Bill

I don't know, man, by time you have that 392 installed and fired up you could have built 2 nice 440's that would each destroy that 392. I love the early hemi's too, but for all that cool, you are actually giving away HP.
