Galen Govier...Is it worth it ?

Like I've said before, if you buy his books, you're going to be money ahead. They have about 95% of the info you are going to want to know on A-, B-, and E-bodies, especially. VERY limited on C-, D-, F-, and M-bodies, as well as trucks, but it's there.

This is what i've always used. He did all the leg work and made it easy to use.
He's a pretty good guy too!

Just contacted Galen Govier's office.

VIN and Fender Tag Decode, and listing my car in the registry...$278.00

If I "buy" today...I will get all my info by Christmas.

Does the Govier registry hold any creedence when selling a car ??

Being a 68' some info is hard to find from the Fender Tag.

Just wondering if it's worth the time and $$$ IF I end up selling the car next year.

Thanks !!!

I sent an order to Galen in January 2015 and a check for $223 to "decode" my 67 Hemi GTX. It has now been 488 days, and still no paperwork. I have got nothing but the runaround and outright lies. Been promised a dozen times by phone and email that it is "going in the mail next week". It has been one of the most frustrating business transaction experiences in my life. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Man, you have to be patient!

In 2010 Galen stopped at our shop to inspect / verify a pre restoration 1970 V code Challenger my brother had.
440 6pk, 18 spline 4speed, dana rear, N96 shaker, track pack equip car, FC7.
He was on his way home after a trip to Denver and we just happened to catch him with time to ck out this one.
I have to say he was a nice guy. we put the car on the lift and he went over it from front to back , top to bottom, he was pulling part numbers from places I had no idea numbers were there. Through him we made some very good contacts for original date code correct parts to help with the restore.
No doubt the paper work end was slow, took us 6 months to get it all but his secretary kept us informed of progress made.
My brother sold the car in 2012 to a guy in Saratoga NY from a add in Hemmings, the car turned out to be one of 32 with the options, color , stripe delete, ect.
Back then we had no idea what we were getting into or for sure what we had.
His help & docs was well worth the $ paid.
I have nothing but good to say about him, others experience may vary but the guy did good by us.

I've noticed that if you have a hemi or a six pack he seems to be "more" interested than if you don't

He ignored my nephew's AAR 'Cuda altogether back in 2010. He had asked Galen about several things on the car, and he blew him off at least 3x, and that pissed me off. Especially since I had provided him many fender tags (info) when he was just getting started.

rather than point out the Many topics about Galens lack of morals,
or the legions of people who got flatout ripped off,
ill just say this instead.

why does it take over a Month, much less a Year,to decode a fender tag and broadcast sheet?
most of us would have it figured out in 2 days.....

because he has to justify the price he charges , "look it took me a month of work to do this for you at $? an hour"

Like a buzzard, I finally decided patience my butt, I'm gonna kill something.
I found the secret to get Galen's Tag Service to ship the order I placed 20 months ago. File a complaint with the Wisconsin BBB, and things start to happen. Complaint filed and order shipped same day. It's a miracle!

Send me your info I'll decode it for free for you.

again Hell NO !!

So in 1985 I buy my '63 Sport Fury Max Wedge. The guy I was buying it from says that this fellow he met wants to come look at the car. The fellow shows up and it is Don Owens. As far as I am concerned, Don knew more about Max wedges that most of us put together. He asked me why I think it is a factory max. I knew early B-Bodies so I told him what was different. He said that was all well and good but pointed to the number on the data plate that made him a real Max. About 10 years ago or so Don died and I am sitting there saying, OK, who's going to say my car is real. So I sent my money and info to Chrysler Historical and got the copy of the IBM card and THEY decoded the plate. I sent money off to Govier and got a hold of Darrell Davis and bought HIS book. After 6 months Galen sent his verification that the car was real and my car was #18 I think on his registry. Don talked about other self styled experts but never bad mouthed Govier.
