I'm trying to decide whether or not to clear coat or paint a new fuel tank for my '69 Super Bee.

What was the original factory finish on the fuel tanks? I'm fairly certain fuel tanks were NOT painted from the factory.

So far I've seen pics of the bare galvanized steel look, or a gunmetal gray colored paint, or black (flat, satin, gloss).

If anyone has any pics of their car from the back, please post them up.

Thanks!

if you want your tank to blend in with other parts of the underside, i would go satin black. if you want factory look, go galvanized or bare metal. here's mine in satin black.

O.E.M. and Spectra replacement tanks aren't cadmium plated, they're ni-terne (92% lead - 8% tin) coated. Same coating as brake lines.
