I know a lot has been written about the use of the Dakota/Ram/van manifolds on A-bodies. Mostly fitment issues but with a few successes.
Can anyone tell me if they are a valid option on small block B-bodies?
TIA,
Mike in FL

I have them installed in a 5.9L Magnum powered '68 Charger. They fit fine. I even used the '98 Ram exhaust headpipes to the cat with a few minor cut and rewelds to tuck it up a little tighter. Go for it.

What I like about them is that the right side exits OVER the oil filter. This allows one single 45 degree bend in the exhaust pipe instead of the 2 or 3 90 degree bends with a regular center dump manifold. Every bend is a restriction so fewer bends, milder degrees in the bends, equals less of a power loss from restriction.
The LEFT manifold....I know that they don't fit early A body cars but looking at the 67-76 cars, it may or may not fit. The exit is close to the firewall and certainly in the way of the column shift cross linkage. Maybe the same with a B body? 1970 and later cars had a locking ignition. These cars, even ones with a floor shifted automatic, had column shift linkage so that the gear selector could not be moved with the ignition locked. It also prevented the ignition switch from locking the steering wheel unless the cars was in PARK.
I wrote all that to clearly say.....IF the car has the column shift linkage for an automatic, the Magnum manifold may not fit the left side. If this is a manual shift car, the clutch linkage will certainly be in the way. The only configuration I see working is a floor shifted A/T without a 70 and later locking steering column.

I semi-mocked up a set from a 200 Durango on my 73 318 when I was putting it back in.

The issue is that the passage that goes from number 1 to number 3 cylinders hangs very low, and will most likely contact the adjustment shaft of a power steering box.

I've heard of one person grinding 1/4" deep groove in that area- seems like a LOT, just how thick is this casting?

I've also heard of someone cutting the "belly" shaped portion out, and welding it back in upside down.

I've even thought about cutting the PS adj shaft down and slotting the new top for adjustment, but then how would you get to it with the manifold in the way- not that I've ever had to actually make that adjustment.

I'd LOVE to hear from anyone that has them on a PS car.

Way too close for my comfort. Only seems to be an issue on iso-k cars though.

That's interesting as the ISO cars actually have 3/8-3/4" more room top to bottom.

Note also on the FEBO thread that it looks like the pass side is touching the trans dipstick.

I noted this on my test as well.

From what posts I can find, there seems to be a difference between Ram, Jeep, and Dakota manifolds. Also, the only center dump manifolds I am seeing are pre-magnum.
