I am going to do you the body & paint on a friends hemi roadrunner. He wants to put it back just the way it was from factory. Does anyone have pictures or know where I can buy a book showing the seam sealer locations. Also does anyone know what & where I can get seam sealer just like the factory used ? Ive done restorations before but not like this. Thanks

FSM will have sealer locations.
Napa has sealer in a tube, i find it easier to use than the brush on kind.

It's there I remember him doing comparisons of different sealers.

Awsome thread but didn't find any pics or info on seam sealer
There are many pics of the seal locations and types of sealers used...you have to search through the thread and use the “restoration tool” on the first post that was created....

Sorry, but I am not going to spend the time trying to find pictures of all locations and explain the different sealers and how to apply them......it would take awhile to gather and especially when I did that throughout my thread...

Good luck.....

That's no problem. Ill see if I can find them Thanks

If he wants you to put it back the way it came from the factory then why aren't you taking pics and applying it back the way it came ? There is no way all the original seam sealer is missing. What the FCM says or the way someone else's car is may not be the way your friend's car is. And you do paint and body but you're asking where to get seam sealer, seems to me with these questions this is gonna be your first attempt. Best of luck.

He already did the metal work & had it blasted. He was gonna do the car himself but he was hospitalized & had to have one of his legs amputated. I always used the cheep seam sealer from napa. I have done several cars. He knows my work. He wants to do a points restoration. I have never done a car for someone that wants the crayon markings, factory textered paint seam sealer, over spray ect. Ive done b bodies, a bodies, fords, & chevies. Some won awards some were in magazines. This is an all new ball game for me. Might have it at Carlisle 2019 if not 2020.

Any good paint and body supply house, will have those various body sealers, usually 3M. That's where I bought all mine.

Thanks, for the interior floors I am gonna use what moparnation74 recommended & used on his.

Thank you all for the good info and suggestions. I checked my FSM and still came up dry. What I am looking for and the only thing not addressed in the FSM is what is used between the trunk lid and the reinforcement framework under it. It is not necessarily a sealer at all but some kind of thick tarry looking stuff that fills the gap and keeps things more ridged from vibrating. It seems to be something that is both a glue and sealer and is always painted over and can be quite sloppy. Any ideas would be appreciated.

First off what year car are you working on ? About your question on the trunk lid, are you talking the area between the trunk lid skin and the trunk lid framework ? I can tell you on my 71 I found 2 types of sealer. I white that was almost everywhere and on the interior on some of the floor seals it was a black more like tar. The area between my hood skin and hood framework had big globs of a sealer like material that keep the skin from rattling. Some were broke loose so I just used seam sealer. You can't tell from the repaired areas and the originals. I don't believe my trunk has anything like that. I will have to look.

Actually it is not for a restoration. It's to "glue together" the bottom home made patch on my 20 year old pickup truck. This would be used to affix/ fill a 3/4" patch flange to the bottom of the outer door skin which is rusted out without trying to weld or braze to rust. I just wanted something that will help it not to rattle and isolate some road noise without pop riveting through the outer door skin. Almost without fail, every vehicle I have ever seen, Mopars that is, has that stuff you described above that appears to stick very well and should do the job. I don't expect it to last forever.

So you're wanting to fasten a patch panel without any type of weld or fastener such as a rivet ? Try Panelbond from 3M. Not the cheapest but it will definitely hold.

Thank You! That's all I am asking for; something that will stick and seal a little. It doesn't have to be pretty but must be waterproof. Heck, the truck is 19 years old. You can see in my picture the pop rivets along the top inside section. There are 2 or 3 more pop rivets up from the bottom to an internal support about midway of the 33" long patch panel, but none through the outer skin. The rust holes at each end are my new door drains, LOL. As it is now I get a lot of road noise from my overly aggressive tires. If I could spare a few bucks, I'd buy a new door and have the whole truck repainted, but that ain't happening. By the way, the picture is from my older truck, not the one I have now. The inside of the patch panel bends up and the outside bends down to the bottom of the outer door skin. I know they make inner and outer patch panels also but it isn't worth doing on something that is a vehicle from the northeast rust belt. Thanks again.
