My 68’ RR came with a 7(?) quart Milodon oil pan when I bought it. The torsion springs on the car were jacked way up in front to accommodate the depth of the pan for clearance on the street, which caused some alignment issues. I didn’t like that look and lowered the bars a good 2” and had the front end aligned.
The car handled and drove much better like this, along with a more desirable stance. Lately, I have have the oil pan scrape several times at moderate speeds ( 40-50 mph) while hitting unseen dips in the road. I toyed with the idea of welding a skid plate on the bottom of the pan for protection. Well, before I could do that I really damaged the pan leaving the fair last weekend. Putting a giant dent, along with a crease that leaked all of the oil from th pan in my garage. I got hung up on a steel shaker plate leaving a dirt parking lot.
Anyway, rather than repairing/replacing my current Milodon, I have been looking for something more stock, that won’t stick down so far. Milodon pan is 7” deep, most of the pans I see online have the exact same shape as my current pan, but I don’t see dimensions to verify?
Also I see pans that are relatively flat, but are only 4 quarts? The car is 95% street driven and sees occasional 1/8 mile strip time, so I don’t believe I need 7 quart capacity..
What are some good middle of the road options to gain more clearance and keep adequate capacity? And I assume I will need to swap the pickup to accommodate a different pan depth if I go that route.
Thanks
