My son's 70 Satellite distributor puked, so we got a new one from NAPA. When trying to time it there is no indicator on the timing chain cover. Is it missing, or is it some sort of bracket that bolts on? Also, what direction do you turn the distributor to advance the timing, CW or CCW? Thanks!

Big block or small block? When cranking if dist turns CW you turn dist CCW to advance. Your going have to find tdc number one cylinder and buy a timing tab. Need to know first BB os SB.

1970 should have the timing tab cast into the aluminum timing chain housing driver side..Also should have a aluminum water pump. If the water pump is cast Iron then the engine is older than 1970.

The 69 and older the timing tab (metal) is on the passenger side.

I just snapped these 2 pics of a cast iron pump and the bolt on metal timing tab. If you cannot find one it should be easy enough to fabricate one. First picture shows the cast pump and tab. 2nd shows the tab with the 2 bolts that hold the tab to the housing. Check to see if your pump housing has these 2 tapped holes as shown at the very top of the 2nd picture. You can also make out the before, TDC and after marks on the tab. Hope this helps
