I'm starting to remove trim, chrome, etc. in preparation for the blast guy... then paint. I'm at the point of disassembling the doors. I'm looking for help with the proper steps, possible pitfalls and any general advice before I start the process and screw something up. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you are going to blast the doors, everything inside them needs to be out of them.....and I mean everything.

Regardless of model, you first will need a service manual and a parts manual. They will tell you how to take it apart and show you pictures of how it goes back together later. Get well lit shots of the inside guts BEFORE you remove anything, from several angles. Study for a few minutes exactly how the pieces are interacting with each other as they move. As you take it apart write in a journal how each piece came off and where it goes along with orientation. Before you know it you will have an empty shell. Bag each piece WITH it's fasteners and parts/bits and clearly label them. When it's ready to go back together you will thank yourself for taking the time, and enduring the hassles, of documentation as everything will, be clear and easy. Good luck.

As far as pitfalls go get ready for scratched up wrists and forearms. Spray the rusty looking bits with WD-40 24 hrs before trying to get them apart. Call up a You Tube video and watch how the parts are removed. Then have at it.

what they said^^^^^^ hard top or sedan ?

take pictures of everything during disassembly, bag every piece possible and mark with magic marker..
Don't be that guy who later on asks for a picture or diagram:icon_fU::rolleyes: of the door guts because you didn't write it down and now you don't remember….

I have taken mine apart and put them back together so many times I could do it blindfolded...

Use a good light inside the door so you can see stuff. Take pictures inside with your phone - especially the clips. Mark and bag everything - left and right side. Wear mechanics gloves when working inside the door - every edge will slice you like a knife.

Hijack's info say 1968 Dodge Coronet 500 ***-u-me its the car.
Take pictures. Go to mymopar.com look in tools and reference for service manual. If you have a PC download a SM and if you have a printer, print pages as needed.

Sorry - I got caught up in something last night. Blacker is correct; it's a '68 Coronet. I'm definitely a bag & tagger, so that part is a given. But the pictures of the inside is a good idea. Otherwise, I'll consult the SM. Thanks.

For me when I gut out doors, 1st: the regs, 2nd: the tracks/vent window, 3rd: top door glass opening, all trim/brackets/weather strips/etc. 4th: out comes the glass and finally 5th: all door latch rods/pulls/locks/latches.

I mentioned wearing gloves, I should have added "long sleeves" also because you'll be reaching in there a fair bit and gloves just won't protect that far !!

Thanks - yours seemed to be the best method, so I ran with it. Worked out fine, although I had to pull the vent window and the main together. I took a sh*t-load of pictures and took notes as to what order to do everything, so hopefully the reassembly won't be too bad.
Hey, since we're on the subject, where's the best place to get replacement door goodies?... felts, rollers, guides, etc.

Remove The Exterior door handles key mechanism first this is done with the window in the up position . then remove all the interior door latches door jamb latch and associated Rods This includes the rear channel guide by the door latch. At this point you’ll be able to move the side glass up and down in the front guide at the wing window. On b bodys there is a small rubber plug on the inside upper door panel that is removed to access Allen screw. Don’t forget the nut at the bottom of the wing window track accessed at the bottom of the door jam
Then remove the wing window and side glass together.
Also take plenty of pictures this always helps

Yes, but can you do it in the field after dark with a Chevrolet and Ford firefight going on around you?
