After a few years away. Ive decided to try and replicate my 66 Satellite.
Using a Revell 1967 GTX as the base / starting point.

Ive most of the things needed on the body itself done. Altered / added the lower trim. Added the upper body line trim and front turn signal indicators.
In process of changing the whole back end to replicate a 66 I currently have someone working on a decal to replicate the trunk finish panel .
And someone else working on making a 3D print of the grill and tail lights.

He is interested in possibly making the correct for 66 Seats. But Im not to worried if he doesnt . I'll use the entire 67 interior with some slight mods

But until then, Parts and pieces are from numerous kits to achieve what I want in the end. Engine is a combination of pieces to get a Hemi and and Auto trans. As the kit itself is a 4spd. My car has an added dana and turn down style exhaust. So most of that I think came from the Revell 69 Charger kit
Interior is painted in the correct crimson red paint from Herbs parts with flocking done for carpet.

I probably have 100 of them that I built as a kid, and twenty new model kits on the shelf waiting to be built. I went into Hobby Lobby the other day because I needed a small bottle of Testors silver paint to detail the edges of the dash bezel for my 71 Charger R/T and those little bottles of model paint are $2.49 each these days. The last time I bought one they were $.49 cents! The whole paint sets ranged from $25 to $40 for a few small bottles of paint and a brush! The prices of the 1/25th scale model cars started at $29 and went up to $50 bucks! I couldn't believe how much money they cost these days. They were $1.99 when I was a kid!

I still have several hundreds boxed up that I built as a kid (mostly Mopars, even as a kid) and dozens that I never built just hanging out on the shelves in the Racement (racing themed basement).

I have maybe several hundred done and several hundred to get to. Mostly old 50-60s annuals rebuilders I've picked up over the past 20 years

And agreed on prices. I picked up a new issue of the 68 Coronet RT vert a while back. At almost $40 EA
And kits / supplies today are NOT cheap. But is anything worth having ???

Having built a gazillion AMT, MPC, Revell, etc in my distant past, huge bags of them were hurled into the garbage when I moved out. I've built a RR model a few years ago, to mimic the car I restored. Even glued a "vinyl roof" on it. Love your detail work on your Satellite ! It's fun !

I sure miss the days when I could read the numbers on a 1/25 scale speedometer without glasses or a magnifier..

...and paint them individually with a brush.

I buy them, I was hoping my grandson would take an interest in them. He is more into sports. Who knows maybe I will be able to do them in my retirement.

CS Daytona I am 95% done converting to T top (it was WAY more involved than you might think).

73 Duster I am also 95% done making look like the one I had including the Demon scoop.

73 Roadrunner waiting to be turned into my Satellite.

What you don't see is the resin 67 Belvedere wagon or the resin 66 Coronet.

That interior looks great!

I built into my 40's. If time was unlimited I would still do it. I actually have many saved kits that I thought I might do when I got older, but I find it takes all my energy to work on the 1:1 versions. Unlike the scale kits, the damn 1:1's always need something done to them. They are never finished.

I still play with them. Currently working on new '68 Coronet R/T convertible kit. I put a more detailed floor pan and chassis from '70 SuperBee under it, rather than leave the simpler '68 era molding. It now has Hemi, 4-speed, Dana 60. I painted it Bronze, with black stripes and interior. Too bad they did not include an "up" convertible top with this kit. I built kits of my '67 R/T and '64 Polara 4-door hardtop. Between kits and diecasts, my collection is closing in on a 1,000 pieces.

Nice, At one time I had well over 1000 pieces. From modern kits to old ones and A LOT of dealership Promotionals as well.
I sold off a huge chunk over the years . But still several hundred remain.
I have a couple of the original issue 1968 Coronet verts, as well as a hardtop. Also have the 69 versions as well.

I also currently am trying to finish a Superbird replica of a friends car that I started at least ten, maybe 15 years ago.

My primary builds are replica drag cars from the past ( not interested in any of the newer stuff )
The Edsel is / was a dead mint unbuilt kit . I bought it early 2000s sometime and built it
The 2 AFX cars are Goodstuff resin body kits

in my youth
I was big into detailing & modifying models
had anything from FE Dragsters Inj or Blown Hemi's
detailed with plug wires etc., to AA/FA & Altered WB or FX cars
some pick ups & Monster trucks too
A few NASCAR stuff from the later 60s & early 70s
mostly MoPars & Pontiacs (my stepfather Bob was a Pontiac guy)

I was big into the 53-56 Ford F100s, had like 10 of them
all had wider tires, a couple lowered, a couple like race-trucks
& a couple lifted 4x4s
I did some cool paint schemes, a lot of metalflake & 2 tones back in the day

I really got into the detail aspects, rear ends & frames
or interiors, in different colors, hand painted stuff
trans different than the engine, usually silver to look like alum.
lots of multiple carbs tunnel rams, many of them had Blowers
& cut out hoods or no hoods at all
painting the dashs, gauges or stickers, collect wider tires & different wheels
I had boxes upon boxes of models/for parts,
some I only bought to get the engines, even decals or wheels/tires etc.

When I lived in Alaska in 1984-86, during long cold winters
I spent a lot of time on customizing models, listening to FM Kwhale on the radio
buy 3 or 4 to make 1 good one

When I left I gave them all to my 10 y/o nephew
they were destroyed in no time, no big deal...

Some I wish I had kept now
I doubt they'd had made the AlCan hwy up & back then thou,
it's all paved now, it wasn't back then
from Concord (East Bay area) to Anchorage/Palmer & back to Concord Ca.

Cool to see them now, you guys do nice work
it brings me back to a better era...

I haven’t built any in years now. Collected a number of die-cast. But still have some builds.

The black 64 426 Belvedere is one I built.

The gold 68 Hemi Charger R/T is another build. Unfortunately no Hemi fender emblems.

A few other: onthe top row, the 61 409 Chevy, the 53 Corvette and th

e 66 Chevy Chevelle SS.

...or the 4x4 Dakota pre-built snap kit that needs lowered and painted to resemble my R/T.

...but now I need a Shelby Pursuit hood and to saw the flat hood off the "curbside" model.

Here is one I did converting and installing chassis from 1957 Chrysler 300C kit to fit under the 1959 Chrysler Imperial body. The Imperial is a reissue of the original 1959 kit. Although the body and interior castings are beautiful, there was no mechanical detail. I carefully opened the hood, and used the inner fenders and firewall that I separated from the '57 kit. With a little trimming, it glued right up into place. The frame and floorpan had to be slightly stretched, due to longer wheelbase of the Imperial. A spare 440 engine was dressed to look like a 413, and relaced the 392 Hemi. An extra crossmember, 2-piece driveshaft, and 4 muffler exhaust system were fabricated to replicate original. I sprayed it a Light Emerald Green Metallic, and cleared it. I used a lot of bare metal foil on this, even the roof. I used Collectible Automobile magazine articles for information while doing this build. I find these magazines to be an excellent reference for many builds.
I did a similar build of the reissued Revell 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham curbsider, using a 1962 Pontiac chassis, because the wheelbase fit. Instead of painting the kit engine Pontiac light blue, I painted it Cadillac dark blue, and it is close enough.

Nice.

I got three different styling iterations of that Imperial (of death) body style.

That's a great color for that car.

Here are some other fun projects I did, although not Mopar. '62 "Bubbletop" Catalina. '64 "El Gato" from GTO and El Camino kits. I did a similar '67 "El Supremo" from 442 and El Camino kits, but can't find pictures of it. The only picture I could find of Brouham mentioned in other post.

Looks good gents. Glad to see Im not alone

I have one of the new 1971 Demon kits on the bench as well. I simply could NOT live with the severely under scale engine in the kit. SO.,,,,, a 1971 Duster gave up its heart for a good cause

Its to be a replica of a car I used to own many years ago

I saw that a 1:12 scale dodge charger is now available. But it's very expensive and nothing moves on it. The wheels don't spin. the doors trunk and hood don't open either. Disappointing for a large model.
