CB Radio from back in the day?

Eh, I just looked on eBay and there's tons of D104's on there. Anywhere from $30 on up, depending on
model and condition (there's even some new in box).

I know there worth something, thats why I didn't let them get auctioned off with the rest of his stuff after he passed. It was a passion for him. I have no idea how to test any of it...

And I would be willing to bet that most of them are forgeries.

The 'HANGMAN KAGH7792'.
We had no cellphones back then, just CB's and scanners to keep us from getting caught. Started out with a Cobra 21 and I remember having a mic that I had to put a battery in. So I guess that would have been a Power mic of some type. Next up is a Cobra 25LTD Classic, this one is in the old CJ5.

Could you ask Dad....

So here's his reply. He's not/can't realistically recommend any particular brand but did bring up Wilson, K40, Comet, Shakespear, and another that I don't recall of hand. The antennas he deals with are for the HAM and CW bands. CB is 11 meters that (IMO, HAMs feel CBs are toys) he hasn't played with for a loo......….ong time. He mentions the "sticks" when tuned properly are pretty much the same for standard wattage usage. Make sure any coil wound can handle the wattage you may intend to put through it and the insulation won't degrade on you. To me that equates to a known quality manufacture.
He did bring up the dual truck rigs that are phased to split the signal. He got into the weeds a bit here and completely lost me. Then say's "they can get into some money, but can a million truckers be wrong?"
Recommends you do a net search and find more reliable info on CB than he has. Plenty of videos for tuning as well.

Remember when this happened to ya'...…….

Most any unit the larger the metal surface it is mounted on the better
I run a CB & UHF/VFH in my Jeep for out on the trail so I can talk to most people

I recall using a CB from the early-mid 1970's that needed a crystal for each of the channels, and you could only select 5 channels max.
I have no idea of the brand or model?

That was the standard archectiture for most two way radios until the advent of the phase lock loop synthesizer. One major advantage of the crystal controlled channel was lower noise. Price outweighed performance when the PLL integrated circuit became available.

Tell Pop thanks and Merry Christmas from Long Island:lowdown:
Hey thanks! And same to ya!
BTW, Another source you might check out are area Hamfests, basically electronics/radio swap meet.......

I remember traveling with my dad as a kid and he always had a Cobra in The car. He was a field service technician and traveled all over the country. I always thought it was cool when he would let me talk on it! It also helped out on many a family vacations knowing where the “smokies” were and alternate routes around accidents! Especially up in the mountains of NC, VA, and WV.

Was thinking qbout my CB radio days back in the 70's. Found this thread I guess I'd never seen. Don't know if there's on about "handles". So, I'll start one.
