I'm converting my car from an auto to a 4 speed. I have the 67 wiring diagrams and have an idea what I want to do....but wondered how the factory did a couple things on 4 speed wiring.

1. The reverse light shows two violet wires going down to the safety switch. How did they do the pigtail? Was it one wire all the way from the bulkhead connector to the 2 prong switch on the transmission. Was there a connector just off the bulkhead and then a pigtail down to the 2 prong switch. Did the 2 prong switch have a short pigtail and then the bulkhead have long wires that go down to the pigtail?

I currently have a short pigtail off the 2 prong switch. I know what I can do to make it work....but would rather be more representative of the factory wiring.

2. Starter relay. It has a ground prong for an automatic neutral safety switch. What do you do with that when you are running a 4 speed. If all else fails, I'll run it straight to ground, but what did the factory do with that post for 4 speed cars?

I have everything figured out under the dash and have properly routed the wires to the bulkhead....just need help on the engine compartment side. Pictures would be helpful if at all possible.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

#2 you will ground it. you can either install a short jumper from the relay bolt or solder the pin top the relay case like the factory did.

The 4 speed reverse Wires come out of the bulkhead in the wiper motor plug and go straight to the reverse switch. There are no connectors or pigtails, it’s all one piece of wire.

My 67 a-body: from the trans, one wire goes to the reverse lights, which are grounded to the body.
The other wire goes to the wiper switch, that's right, gets power from the wiper switch.

My understanding is the switch has an internal circuit breaker, not sure if that is for the wipers or the reverse lights, or both. I do know that sometimes when my reverse lights wouldn't work, if I turned on the wipers, once they started going the lights came on.

Have since taken the switch apart and cleaned it, grounded the reverse lights to a ground hub that returns to the battery, and power comes from somewhere else now, I forget, but I replaced the fusebox with one with modern fuses.

Thanks. I found everything I need at Classic Industries. I appreciate the help.
