The new car came in just in time for my birthday!!!!

What was that you said a few years ago?

Personally, I'm done with sports cars & am really looking forward to getting back to something that's more in my blood. The Hellcat.

Yes, that's what I said and am sticking with it. I'm done with sports cars. As the title of this thread says, "the new car came in", but I never said it was mine.

Well, I don't play games well. So, you either own it or not.

Well Happy Birthday. Hopes that not your DD. You'll have a heck of a time getting in and out. lol

I guess it's someone you know pretty well?
Passed the "nothing you have on can transfer or scratch the seat" test...
Hey! We're fortunate you slum around with "the masses" on the forum.
Are you going to tell us more about it?
Also, if I had the bank, I'd get a McLaren.

I'm 5'-11" & I really wasn't comfortable in the car at all. Not enough extended legroom for me & the roofline is really, really low on my noggin. If I was 6" shorter, I'd fit in it much better. The dash controls are track/sport/race mode, cruise control, wipers, radio controls & a few more functions that I can’t remember. There is a digital tach (led dots) built into the top rim of the steering wheel.

Getting in and out of it is very, very awkward. I know it's supposed to be an awesome car, but I personally like looks of the '05-'06 GT's better.

Well, at 6'3" 250# I guess it would be worse for me.

I'm surprised to hear that, because they should have room for a helmet to be worn.
I'd think that they would want to make the driver's seat and the associated leg and head room accommodating for as wide a range of body sizes as possible!

I like the looks of the 05-06 GTs better too. Far truer to the original.
I like the 05-06, would love to have one, more than many other cars, but I would want to be able to get more power from it than stock, given the horsepower wars of today leave the power output of that supercharged engine falling behind. I would imagine that there is aftermarket performance parts support for it, like pulley and injector upgrades, and maybe programming for the ECU.
A nitrous + fuel injecting unit at the intake of the supercharger would seem to be a given. I'd expect the supporting components (transmission, half shafts, etc.) to be strong enough to handle the increased power.

There were stronger powered 05-06 GTs available; the 100 copies of the GTX1 version could be had with 700 hp.

Looking up the GTX1:
"Borla headers and mufflers and a smaller supercharger pulley boost claimed horsepower from Ford's ultra-conservative 550 to 618"
So I'm not going to spend brain power on something that isn't going to happen, but I wonder how much grunt over factory output the supporting mechanisms can handle, and if there are upgrades for those.
When you get to supercars, 550-650HP is on the low end of the range.

I think that is a car designed for someone the size and checkbook balance of Mike Bloomberg. Its cool though that you got to at least try it on for size, it is an opportunity very few will be offered!

Thanks, was/is a dream car for me and fortunately I was able to get one. Not as much HP has the newer super cars, but plenty for the street, it is basically a race car with a license plate; hell the stereo and the AC were options (ACRs had these items optional). Has a factory race harness installed, etc. No cup holders in it either...

A friend of mine has a supercharged Viper. I've never seen it, but a mutual friend told me about it.
Back in the late 70s, early 80s, I had a 71 Charger R/T 440 4bbl stock in 78-79. Sold it because my parents said "I didn't need 2 cars at 17 yrs old" and that's ok because I wouldn't have been able to keep the Charger over the years that followed. The car that replaced the Charger was a brand new 79 Aspen R/T, E58 option 360. It was nice having a new car.
Anyway, the guy who has the Viper has a 2nd one with the stock setup, and back in the day he had a 69 383 Roadrunner.
My 70 Roadrunner V-Code is, by far, the epitome of muscle cars that I've ever had, and I'm very happy with it, and I have plans that are about to take a big step forward with it.
Yeah, a Viper would be "supercar" enough for me, and with the readily available performance upgrades available, and common enough that doing the upgrades would not be forging a new path, but following known techniques that others have successfully enacted, getting 1,000 horsepower out of the V-10 is very doable, and it's exotic enough to draw "oohs and ahhs" from the people that would matter to me.

Good info. You can make some big HP with the V10, but you either have to start we with a 96 or earlier or a 03 and newer because those came with forged pistons where as the 97-02 had cast.

The GII had ~450 HP new, but I can say it is not like 450 in an older muscle car, the way the Viper and cars like it use and apply that power is very different. I like to say that the minute you turn the key in that car, it is trying to kill you. It has no traction control or anything other than ABS to keep you on the road. It took me a long time to really get a feel for the car and be able to control it, it is a beast and will wrap you around a pole in a heart beat. Many many of these cars were wrecked quickly but people getting froggy in them thinking they knew how to drive; they might a normal car but the Viper and others like it are a different animal.

The thing I really like about it is that I can work on it with the tools I have, no specialty tools required. It is actually a pretty simple car all in.

They never, NEVER should have used cast pistons in a Viper! That's a damn shame.
Not that I'll ever need that info, it's good to know.

Yeah that was a bad decision on the engineers part, the cast pistons can take up to around 650 or so, but in reality going past 600 is like pulling the pin on a hand grenade. A supercharger with around 4psi pulley will get you about 550(ish) but going much beyond that psi wise is not real smart, some guys do this and then through nitrous on there, but again you are looking for trouble. The Viper is not a drag car, and IMO doesnt need 1000 hp. I can tell you that the 450 it comes with is more than many can handle and more than enough for 99.9% of what anyone would use the car for.
