The Woodward Garage

could they be the 2% cars?
Yes, this is one of the four 1964 2% cars in action. Two Plymouths and two Dodges. Four more cars were fabricated for 1965 and based on the Hard top models only, but by then, the overall secret was out of the bag.
I modeled most of my cars set up on that 2% DNA.

Is that the Only pic of Spehars garage?
there has to be more!

As far as the old pictures go, yes the one with the Sunoco banner is the one that made press in the Car Craft article I believe. If there is anymore, I'd be first in line to see 'em, especially of the interior. Ted may have had some. Perhaps Addison, but he's now deceased.

I remember looking into the dark bowels of "Brooklyn Heavy's" Pumpkin garage back in Brooklyn about 13 years back and it was full of stories indeed.

Great post Lee. Caught my interest. Not to hijack the thread, but one of my customers back in the 90'-early 2000's was "Double H Plastics" an injection molding plant. It was located on Street Road in Warminster, PA. It was the former address of HURST. I know that the '68 HEMI cars were not built there, but thought that maybe the Hurst/Olds cars were. Certainly lots of performance parts came from there. I remember sitting in there lobby, thinking about who else may have sat in the same chair. It wasn't restored at the time, and still looked like something from out of the '60's.

Hey what's up?
I love both your cars.
Yes, that Hurst facility would have been a great place to document and see with the naked eye. Wasn't it like 500 or so of those '68 Hurst olds 455's that were produced?
I'm not sure on memory of what I've read on those cars if they were indeed converted there. Those Silverados were true rebels against GM rules.
What I find really interesting is the trajectory line of special edition cars. It's a real treat to see when and where a car or at least it's (body in white) shell starts and goes through the different hands and process before they end up in the racers hands.
Another haunt that I believe is long gone is the Detroit based Alexander Bros custom car shop. I think they converted the fabled 2% cars there. I could be wrong.

I think your right about the 2% cars I think they did some one off show cars for Chrysler too. Brooklyn heavy had some great cars

Yeah, I know The Alexander Bros painted and might have converted Bill Flynn's '65 sedan to Altered wheel base status (The only factory sedan ordered by the factory for AFX duty) but I have a hunch they were indeed behind the 2% cars through the eyes and instructions from Jim Thornton/Tom Hoover a year before. I would suspect that if this is true, then the cars were created at the 13113 Littlefield shop. If not, then they were created at the Ramchargers shop.
Yeah, though he (Brooklyn Heavy) had a checkered past, he was one hell of a car guy like no other. I hung out with him just before his passing at one of his Brooklyn social clubs where a lot of $treet racers loitered. Quite a list of A-list factory race cars that he ran both on and off the record.

I have summoned Mr Fiberglass to verify and enlighten:lowdown::lowdown::lowdown::carrot:
What really strikes my fancy are the plain mundane cars like the Woodward A-body Mule and the 2% villain cars below. This is of course without discounting the obviously outlandish cars that dominated AFX and other ultra/pro classes thereafter. The secret trap door garages and supply chain labs where these ringers were built or conceptualized is what's fascinating.

think they will ever have another reunion like the 08? that was something eles

if they do, it should be done soon.
Here's the old Trick Titanium shop in Troy where a lot of parts were fabricated and fasteners provided for the Pro Stock program. Rod Shop/Motown Missile/Wire car/Ramchargers and last but not least my own monstrosity.
I was surprised the building was still there sans the old sign of course.

Wouldn't it be cool, if they had a back room with a bunch old parts and prints etc..?

As much as I would like to say yes, I don't see it happening. Unfortunately most of them are gone.
I have to say it was a weekend I will never forget.
Especially since it was at my home track and when I was a kid, my dad use to tell me stories about the day's when all of those guys used to come in for match races. That was so COOL

i can see it happening, why not?
someone still owns the cars.
unfortunately the original drivers are gone.
