My uncle was in one of these over Germany. Top Turret gunner and engineer.
My Dad also was the TTG & Flight Engineer on His Liberator. 24th mission, over Hanover was shot down, and spent the rest of the War marched across Germany, Stalag to Stalag, until They were liberated by Gen Patton's advance...

That plane was in the battle of Ploesti. There is a book titled Ploesti that tells the story. It was written back when the survivors could be interviewed. I would highly recommend anyone interested read it. To say the story is harrowing is an understatement. I'm surprised more people don't know if it.

My Uncles plane crash landed in Sweden on his 13th mission. Spent the rest of the war there.
