Shot a .22 short sub sonic in my bolt action rifle a couple of hours ago and it was louder than I hoped for but still not bad but for the pistol shooting the same round surprised the snot out of me! At least the bolt action would chamber the next round and the pistol wouldn't. So far, no cops :D

Gee Crank...I have some loudass pistols, the '60s-vintage SW snub-nose probably being the loudest. But!....none of them compare to the head shock of shooting my Russian M44. That's hearing-protection mandatory nowadays...it's fun at night too (I guess that's why they called them the flamethrower LoL)....I swear that bastard is louder than the .50..

I've always hear the the decibel from a 22 is greater than most any other caliber. Harder on the ears!
I didn't wear hearing protection on either one but probably should have with the pistol. It didn't make my ears ring though. The .22 short subs are generally pretty quiet but there's another that's even quieter. So far, I can't find them.

yeah the shorter barrel, it seems a lot louder

.22 shorts are fun, cheap too
.22 Long Rifle everywhere is always sold out it seems
or waiting for a restock
.22 Win. Mag is loud as hell, for what it is

silencers are nice, where you can get them
shoot all day without ear protection with a .22
in Texas shouldn't be an issue

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I prefer .45acp still,
even in custom lighter reloads, for target
still, LEOs/cops would be coming soon after too :poke:

I want another classic Lever Action rifle again, in .357 mag/.38 special too
same as my Ruger same round as a revolver/handgun
Ruger/Marlin, Winchester or Henry's

I was thinking about getting another one, like I had in Alaska,
Marlin 1894 classic chambered in .44 mag/.44 special
I don't live in Alaska anymore, not much need for that now
I still like them & want them thou...

I wanted to get a new/different .40 S&W round, in semi-auto too
probably buy used, not much new "strikes my fancy"
they were all 'the fancy' for a time, now pretty limited who even make one
Glock still does (I don't really want a Glock)
A Carbine in .40 S&W would be really cool
a Springfield 1911 EMP in .40 S&W, would be cool, hard to find
use all my same .45acp stuff, holster grips etc., feel the same in the hand

The car stuff, never-ending projects, they are never truly done
you think you are done & 'bam' you spend some more
keeps me from spending discretional extra $$$ on guns

I shot my 44 mag without hearing protection once and my ears were ringing for quite some time. Kind of hurt too. Out hunting I fired it off and didn't notice it.

My former brother in-law had a 50 and it didn't seem that loud and didn't kick like I thought it would. Do some damage...oh yeah!

I have two Glocks in .40 with one being a gen1 and the other being a gen4. The 4 is much nicer in the hand....

indeed, any rifle round shot from a pistol will be louder in a short barrel . my buddy hunts w a savage striker in 308 , it has a healthy bark ! i can’t afford any more hearing loss , i wish i hadn’t been so foolish with it when i was younger….

You want loud? Try full house 158gr JHP .357 rounds out of 2” J Frame…
Used to have a .357 Colt Trooper that had lots of rounds fired through it....enough to have .005" clearance between the cylinder and barrel. Man, the first time I fired it was without hearing protection and after that, I never ever fired the bigger bore pistols without HP!!! At night, fire would encircle that thing from that .005" clearance lol

Don't really need one of those lol but don't ya need to get a special license/permit for one? The gooberment already knows too much about me.....
get ahold of Silincer Central they will do all the forms/registration
& stuff for ya, if you are legal, it is a bit of a hassle
But, in Texas shouldn't be a big deal
But they ain't cheap !!! as much as a gun in many cases...
but;
if you want to hunt without scaring every animal in a 2 mile radius
or plink on the property or at the range, or just not piss off everyone
or especially in an indoor facility (most require ear protection anyway)
can't beat em' helps with recoil tramendously too

Magnaporting is cool too, not really any quiter,
it does cut down 50% or more recoil, front of the gun going up
makes for far better acuracy
but also makes for a great light show at night
if you have a threaded barrel, you can get a muzzle break too
great at night too

Thought about making a silencer years ago, but......

Get a crossbow pistol if you want quiet.

CB caps are really quite in a bolt action rifle. Sounds like one of those little tissue poppers you throw on the floor.

I shot a few ground hogs in the city with them, a neck shot from above would do the trick. My wife was downstairs and never heard it.
