Anyone on here really knowledgeable about the differences between GM and Ford/Chrysler vintage Hurst Automatic shifters? I'm talking about the main shifter assemblies. The DualGate, AutoStick 2 and AutoStick 3. I've seen evidence from old Hurst Catalogs of different part numbers for these shifters, especially DualGate, AutoStick and Lightning Rods. Typically one part number for GM and the other number for Ford/Chrysler. So far I've been told by one person that Ford/Chrysler needs a shorter throw on the Hurst shifter rod, than GM. GM needs a longer throw for the Turbo 350/400 etc.

Is this true? And does that mean if I get the wrong AutoStick 2 assembly, from a GM kit, it just won't shift my 727 properly? The throws being mismatched to the control shaft on the transmission. I know they made different cable brackets and control shaft arms, but i'm wondering if say a GM shifter can be adjusted to match the throw of the 727 control shaft arm.

I don't understand why say the current Pro-Matic 2 is a universal kit for GM, Ford & Chrysler (same shifter assembly for all 3), yet the 70's and early 80's units seem to have been "different" for GM versus the other two. I think even the AutoStick 3 may have been universal for all "big three" manufacturers.

the pro matic 2 comes with all the levers for all the brands

Yeah it comes with all the brackets and lever arms for GM, Ford, Chrysler. But what about the throws? Has anyone on here delt with the "ShifterDoc" guy ShifterDoc (Formerly HurstShiftersOnline)? He is the one that was telling me GM automatics have longer throws than Ford/Chrysler.

I don't have any hands on with those
Shifters but I would think they'd only want to make 1 shifter assembly and use lever ratio on the different trans to make it work?

You need to listen to what the Shifter Doctor is telling you. He has 40 years of experience with shifters. Luckily he is less than a hour away from me and helped me with my 4-speed shifter. I’ve also met him face to face and he’s a great guy to deal with.
