I’m replacing the incorrect tops with the right ones. I ran into an issue and need advice. The hanger arm on the tip is wider than the opening in the hanger bracket that it goes into. Has anyone seen this? What’s the best solution? Also is that hanger arm supposed to be on an angle or parallel to the tip body?

I had a similar problem. I ground the tab down slightly then greased it to get it in the rubber. As far as the tilt goes, install the mounting bracket then install just the tip and check the angle. It does seem a bit much.

Back in the day I had the same problem with the OEM tips and hangers on my 1970 GTX. Tip would seat in the hanger, but wouldn't stay, clearance on the rubber slot was a bit too tight. Same basic solution as the previous post, only in my case the dealer drilled out the slot in the rubber to get more clearance. Paid $6 each for OEM tips in 1977, wish I'd bought some extras. I just checked out the NOS tips on my current ride, and the angle of the hanger is not quite as steep as yours, but not quite parallel either.

Don't be worried about mods that make things work properly. Most of this repop stuff needs it.

Back in the day was so much fun there were not problems like this.
