Just finished four speed conversion
Took the car out on a longer drive
It’s popping out of forth and a little hard to get into first
I followed instructions for setting up linkage
Trans was completely rebuilt
Any thoughts and thanks

Adjust the clutch where you have 1" of free travel at the top and see if it makes a difference.....although that never made a difference in any of my junk. Try putting the shifter in 4th, get under the car and see if the shifter ear moves more towards 4th gear. Might have to disconnect the rod to see what the ear does. I'm not real experienced with sticks.....just know how to shift them! :D

You really need to put some more thought into these thread titles Steve.

Sounds like your transmission rods need some tweaking to get the shifter working smoothly. Popping out of second gear was a problem for me once, and it turned out to be a worn synchroniser hub assembly....a little pricey to fix, but worth it.

So I took the car out today, still pops out of forth when I back off gas. If I hold the shifter it stays in.
I backed off the rear stop (Hearst comp plus). It goes into forth no problem.
Im wondering should I adjust the linkage so the shifter rod presses the trans lever more?

You have to adjust the stop, after making sure the linkage has the lever fully engaged. It's not completely engaging.

Hard to get into first is because you need more clutch adjustment. Is this a new or rebuilt trans ? Because a loose bearing can also cause them to pop out of gear. I had a bad and loose rear bearing making my old 4-speed pop out of gear. But always make sure the linkage is adjusted right and not loose first.
