Nasty NASCAR crash

Sounds even dumber to say 'na$car' car.....

Well, Crankster, that is what it became, and ruined the sport. Drivers can't utter a sentence in an interview without mentioning at least a dozen sponsors. Most former drivers make horrible announcers. Prices of everything NA$CAR is ridiculous. The sport did itself in.

These days, NA$$$$$$$$$$$$$$CAR is on life support. I quit following that in 2005, and haven't looked back. Local dirt-track racing is a far better use of a day/night, watching guys racing for the thrill of it and not the big money.

Agree but even going to a local dirt track isn't all that cheap either but yeah, much cheaper then going to a 'big' race. I like to watch from my easy chair especially when my back is hurting. About to be 70 and sitting on a bleacher seat isn't so inviting anymore plus I get to eat the comfort foods I choose and not the track food which is usually pretty trashy. Also told people to quit buying me NASCAR stuff since it is so high and I don't collect it anymore. Nowadays I want socks and underwear lol And the last time I went to a NASCAR race was when I got free VIP tickets to the truck race at Texas Motor Speedway in about 2000.

Only watch the road course races.. and Daytona, rest sucks balls just like the France family.

It says a lot when the crashes are more interesting than the cars.
Drivers in cocoons. Cars with training wheels.
Less risk causes more foolishness.

hey , why doesn't somebody start a stock car race, you know you go down buy a car, give it some of your own modifications change the tires and go qualify,

I remember that several years ago, Hot Rod Magazine ( David Freiburger) tried to be a driving force behind a new sanctioning body to do just that. It seemed like they were pretty serious about it, but, obviously, didn't get the backing they were looking for.

I'm sure CRASHCAR had something to do with slowing that down.....

You can bet the France family put the smackdown on that effort. It's why HR didnt get any backing.

I think Freiburger probably has friends in high enough places to get something like that going. It would probably start out and remain at a low level until the 'higher' levels see it growing then wouldn't have a choice to recognize it being a viable venue that could make them some money.....but maybe not? Has to be80' something that would attract fans in the stands but maybe it would. I remember when the Super Street, Super Gas and Super Comp classes was introduced in drag racing and it seemed to have a pretty good following including plenty of racers until all the electronics showed up. Wasn't long after that when the stands were totally empty. Do they still run the Super Classes? It as the early 80's when I participated in Super Street....

I guarantee na$car put pressure on some companies to withhold sponsoring HR or face no exposure in na$car...for what good it would do now.
Remember when they banned ESPN from tracks?
If it was tried today I dont think na$car has the pull to get that done any more.
Na$car used to be the gorilla in the room. With all their takeovers, etc of other sanction bodies they may be still.

Here in the North and West Nascar was never the big show. NHRA had and still has some leverage. And certainly opportunity with Nascar's falling popularity?

If NHRA was to embrace and showcase some of the merging EU technology? As well as show getting nostalgia racing? I think it could work?

I know it's a little "All Star Wrestling" theatrics? But end the competition with an "New Guys vs Old School" Smackdown grudge. It really would not be that hard in the very near future to make the rules fair? So driver talents is the primary factor.

Top fuel would still be the "Big Dogs" especially live? But that too could be expanded to allow other design concepts a chance?

Just thinking outloud. But there is an overall decline in all motorsports?

But there is an overall decline in all motorsports?
And with the jamdemic.....sure there's been a decline but it was happening even before that. Bristol used to be one of my favorite races to watch and especially the trucks but since they reconfigured the track, now it's boring too.

I remember when the only time you saw 4 doors was in the Demolition Derby

NHRA is in trouble, too. They, like na$car can't leave the rules alone.
And they have always skewed the rules to one manufacturer.
