Why do you like Mopars?

Soooo many reasons. I was 1 when my Great Grandmother got her new '67 Coronet. During the summers for 11 yrs, we would take trips all over the US in it. In '71 my dad had a girlfriend w a new 340 Duster. Then of course all the movies like Vanishing Point and TV Dukes of Hazzard. They were the only company willing to use Plum Crazy Purple!!!

At 5 got a StepDad that had 68 Charger RT 4 speed that he bought after getting back from Vietnam.

Grew up with that car and learned to drive in it and he let me take it to high school. So there is a lifetime of Love for the 440.

My Dad wasn't a car guy - I developed into one on my own. When I was in high school, I was into Rock 'n' Roll pretty seriously, but I was tinkering with cars, too (my parents' Fords). My Dad told me he'd lend me $1,000 for either a stereo or a car. At the time, I had a part-time job pumping gas and my boss was a Mopar guy. But he was getting out of the car stuff and chasing his dream to become a a millionaire selling Amway. He told me about his Mopar he wanted to sell, but I had never seen it. Then, one Sunday morning (and I remember it like it was yesterday), while I was working at the gas station, I was sitting in the office waiting for the next customer to come in and my boss pulled up in front of the window in this.

A couple of days later I bought it (my first car) - with my Dad's loan, and I've been all Mopar ever since.

Looking back, I think I had Mopar in my DNA all along. As a newborn I was brought home from the hospital in this

and I remember the mother of my buddy across the street driving us around in her brand new '68 Charger. Add to all of that many of the reasons listed by others as well.

Was all my old man could afford, but I sure like rubbing the salt in the wounds of my old car buddies that had Chevy's and made fun of my "poor man" Plymouth's and Dodge back in the '70's. I get the last laugh... and remind them every chance I get!

I was born in 63. My grandfather had a mid 60’s Plymouth, not sure which one and later bought a Polora. We didn’t have new cars but dad is a gear head. I remember he had a 37Ford with an early Hemi in it. I remember being fascinated by the rounded rear window. Had a Ford Station wagon that had put a 289 in. Had a Dodge pickup with a camper on it. Good truck that we took all over fishing and hunting.
Now that I have said that it was the General Lee that made me get a Mopar.
I had to get a Charger and it was the first car I ever bought in 1983.

I get it from my dad, his brother and my grandfather. All they ever had was mopars as far back as I can remember. My dad had a '69 or '70 Polara, a '75 Cordoba that he bought new and a '73 Power Wagon. He had the Cordoba until the early '90s My dad gave my brother the '73 Power Wagon for his 16th birthday and almost 30 years later, my brother still has the Power Wagon. My grandfather had a Dodge Van from the '70s that was setup inside for traveling/camping. My grandmother had a '78 Cordoba. My uncle had a '79 Power Wagon and a '67 Coronet which he still has today.

Because I grew up watching these race.

When I was a kid growing up in the sixties, auto racing was huge & the common denominator in all forms of winning cars was "426 Hemi". When I got my driver's license & was saving for a car, I didn't know what I wanted, but when a school chum bought a 68 Charger, that was it for me. I was in auto love.

Growing up watching the General Lee fly.
Yep me too. Being in the UK I knew nothing about US muscle cars and Id never even seen any American cars apart from on US TV programs. I was about 13 when the DOH appeared on UK screens in about 1980...British four pot small cars simply did not look and, more importantly, sound like that!

It's kinda funny but I was a Pontiac guy for almost twenty years before I started buying and building other stuff. I lost my dad in 84 when I was 13 but kept a picture of him in his 67 Hemi satellite with me but those were always out of my price range until 2019. Little bit of weed mixed with some hard liquor, combined with some cash and good credit got my my Hemi. At 47 years old. No regerts.

Unlike a lot of you old farts :poke: I didn't grow up in the golden days of Mopar so there was no experiences... good ol days. We had K cars, vans and fifth avenues so nothing to desire. For me it was the mean looking grills, sexy lines, crazy color and graphic options, factory scoops, innovative designs like the Daytona's and Superbirds, 426 HEMI, the altered wheelbase cars... They were the pioneers, they dared to be different and push the envelope which is exactly what I like.

Why’s a tree good?
Why’s a sunset good?
Why are boobs good?

I grew up across the street and down the road about a mile from two Chrysler plants. We had more mopar in our town than you could have ever imagined. Yes, there were other brands, but, mopar ruled. I'd go watch them go around a test track before loading them up for shipment. My dad worked there, so it was an easy choice. My brother drove a new 67 dart gt, 273 hp, 4 speed, while my dad drove a new 67 dart gt, 273, automatic. Those were great times!!! I still bleed Chrysler blue and always will.

I grew up a Ford guy! I got hooked when I stumbled across my car on a dealers lot on consignment. Talking with the salesman I asked him about the car, he just said that it was bequeathed by her aunt and he didn't want it and didn't know anything else. I proceed to tell them a little about what I knew as the car looked familiar to me, told him the previous owners name, where he lived, and that my Dad used to carpool in it, etc. He says that there's a certicard under the hood, he pops the hood and looks at the card and his eyes light up like, Dam, this dude does know this car! We talk some more and he tells me it's consigned for $5K, but because you know the car and have a bond to it, I'll let it go to you only for $3500, SOLD! It grew on me since.
And it is tucked away in my garage along with my 66 Ply Sat!!! And I need to mention, that my Dad also liked watching the NASCAR races back in the 60's as he was an employee of the Pure Oil Company home of Firebird Racing Gasoline. cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

I think because there was a certain 'rebel mystique'
about them back in the day, like 'the bad boys'
They were cool, had a mean look & reputation
they had a distinctive sound too

I remember them well from the drags, my stepdad took me too
the fastest S/S-ers, fuel altereds & dragsters, were all HEMIs

They weren't just the 'Run of the Mill' everyday cookiecutter cars
Fairlane, Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle etc., everyone else had
(albeit I've owned them too)
They were far fewer of them on the road

My 1st real road car was a
68 Charger R/T GG1 black top & guts

I spent a lot of time when young with my Great Uncle Tink,
he was a truck driver (my dad's uncle) had a cool Gold & Black
58 Desoto Adventurer 392 Hemi 2 dr HT, until he died 1998-ish
he always drove it fast, he'd let me sit on his lap & steer it
his wife my Aunt Anne had a big ol' 300 Chrysler (65 ?),
then a 68 Polara convertible
then later Demon 340 4 speed, later a Duster 360
she was like the lil' old lady from Bethel Island
his/her sons, all a few years older than me, I really looked up to;
John had a 68 Barracuda Formula S 383 4 speed
Jim had a 68 (or 69) GTS 383 4speed
& Pete had a 71 Duster 340 4 speed...
My mom had a 57 Savoy 2 dr wagon
I was brought home from the hospital in originally...
My stepfather Bob had a 60 Dart Phoenix 383
when he married my mom, when I was 6 y/o
(he also owned a cool 35 Ford PU, 64 GTO, 49 Indian)
My Mom's 1st new car was a 68 Sport Satellite 383 4bbbl 4 speed,
she/they ordered new, I was right there when they made the deal
& when we picked it up too (I was 8 y/o)

they were all MoPar people

I was destined to be a MoPar gearhead

almost all my friends early on in HS,
we all had
either 68-70 RR's or 68-70 Charger R/T's
we were sort of the MoPar gang from Georgetown

Most of my racer friends had MoPars too,
some trucks, some PowerWagon
even US that had Brand X racecars, had a MoPar streetcar

My serious answer: my brother-in-law cop took me at 16 years old to the shooting range AND let me drive his new Dodge Charger at the range. Talk about bliss ! Firing .22's and .45's PLUS getting behind the wheel of a charger the same day ! That's all it took.

For me it was the better looking body style among other things. But the main reason was when I was a poor 16 year old in 1976 my money would buy a nicer Mopar than a GM or Ford. At the used car lots the GM or Fords would have higher mileage and worse condition but cost more.
