Where did you learn to swim? Fresh water or salt water? Self taught or took lessons?
I myself, self taught in the Adriatic Sea.
And I'm not the best swimmer. I don't float real well. LOL!

I lived on the Fla coast '69-'77. Had summer passes for the community pool, swam in the ocean, and a friend had a pool, so, I did chlorine and salt. I also self taught as I jumped into the deep end and it was sink or swim... Basically, I swam like a fish and still can do well, just can't hold my breath as long a used to be able to.

my brother in law was asking my grandson that just yesterday, he said did you get lessons or did you get thrown in like john wayne , he's 6 and he answered matter of factly , he through me in like john wayne and I learned, I almost busted up , I was there when he did it he wasn't lying

Learned to swim in our swimming pool. My sister's tied a cane pole fishing line onto my back belt loop to keep me from going to the bottom! 440'

Fountain Park, Allentown, Pa. Around 1957. Free public pool. Remember the unpaved lot, my Dads 47 Chevy and the spots our wet suits left on the Mohair front bench seat.

Mom signed me up for swimming lessons when I was eight. We were in Tucson, AZ at the time. I was terrified of diving off of anything except the low board. Instructor made me go off of the high dive at one point that summer. My dumb *** landed on her and knocked the air out of both of us. Scared me to death. It was years before I went back in a swimming pool...

when I was thrown in a large creek when I was growing up on a boys farm it was learn or drown and I learned real quick

Self taught. Dad tried to teach me but he wasn't exactly good at teaching anything and would get frustrated quickly and start raising his voice. Usually I learned stuff by just watching him do things and it was a lot less stressing to do that but him trying to help me in math was the biggest stress event lol. Anyways, was going off the high dive at the school pool when the coach/life guard noticed that I'd swim underwater to the ladder and he made me swim the width of the pool back and forth. It wasn't all that wide but I petered out on the return lap so I had to do it again after resting a bit. Think I was 12 or 13 at the time. Never thought I was a very good swimmer either even after a couple of years of surfing.....and going off the high dive a lot.

My Grandfather owned a Mobile Home Park in South Jersey. It has a Lake. I was probably 5 or 6. A teenage girl showed me how. Yes I remember. Man great times.

That was a little while ago, 1967 if memory serves me. My dad was stationed at Fort Riley, KS and the family camped the entire summer at Tuttle Creek (State) Park, KS. My mom, who was an excellent swimmer, taught me to swim. My brother, sister, and myself spent almost every daylight hour in that reservoir.

On the shoulders of my oldest brother. At a state park lake.I was about 5.
He took me out in the deep water then pushed me off saying, "swim or die !"
Learned real fast..

YMCA Plainfield NJ. 1971
I was around 6 months old when Mom started me in the pool.
I taught my son the same way, as a baby.
Babies have no fear, so instinct kicks in.

I learned by myself how to swim when I was 10 years old in my family pool in our back yard.
It was only 4 feet deep but I learned in one summer

Lake Erie, back in the 1960's. Grew up in North Western PA, right on the Lake.
So....freshwater. I learned from being tossed bodily out of my Uncle Gary's boat about 100 feet from shore, by my Dad. He jumped in after and held me up while I figured it out, with pointers from him. No sweat after that. I had been in ponds and pools before then and knew about holding my breath and doggie paddling...so tossing me in wasn't a dangerous option.
