Carbon Fibre Transmission Shield

Fwiw I remember a thread on moparts of people trying unsuccessfully to get them as well

I said to the lady that answered the phone, why are you just stringing me along? Why not just tell me they are not available and save me the aggravation of calling you every week for another delay? She said, these are hand made and we only have two guys making them. Since they are made from Kevlar we don’t always get first dibs on the material needed. She had all of the right answers, but I still don’t have a shield. Who makes the blankets? It’s better to that then nothing. I heard overheating is an issue with them?

The Ol' Song and dance! No waiting list? Put a frans temp gauge and a cooler if it gets hot.

I didn't experience any severe overheating when I ran a blanket on my '65 Coronet bracket car, it would go 6-7 rounds with no problem, and those last couple rounds would normally be really "hot lapped".

Since they are made from Kevlar
So..which is it? :poke::popcorn2::D
Carbon fiber, that I expressed concern about it shattering if used as a transmission shield, or Kevlar, which while I'm not as familiar with its properties when molded with a hardened intermediary resin in order to hold its form, I would think it may be stronger in preventing flying transmission pieces from penetrating it?
I know it's just a conversation with no product available, but the weight and space savings would be significant and it wouldn't act like a blanket retaining heat.

Kevlar is the soft stuff they use for bulletproof vests. Also, MAYBE, trans blankets. The CSI shield is carbon Fibre.
And if that's true that they have MONTHS of backorder, and only two guys making them....HIRE SOMEBODY!! Backorders don't make a manufacturer money, PRODUCT does.

Yes, that's a use most people know.
There have been other applications as well.
I was trying to see if the thread title was in error or not.

I think we may have to use a blanket. We have a sfi shield but not sure if we can keep our console with a tweeked floor?. Be interested in pictures of the floor mod for a sfi aluminum shield if anyone has any???

Hope you find an aluminum SFI shield that fits a 727 that actually fits. Mine from the late '80's was designed for a glide. But it had the SFI sticker. I modified it to protect my 727 & legs. Good luck.

I think your right on about the fit...We ran it with a modified tunnel. I think we bought in '94 and it was a TCI?...and I was never impressed by it. I will try to take a picture... its still on the transmission and I need to get it back out as we almost have the engine back together. It looks like we are going to run it in our other 69 charger. I don't want to cut on the car but it has to be safe with a transbrake.
I can't really recall tech even looking at the shield when we were running 10's. It's the shield we ran in this:

I put a csi flexplate shield, and a tci aluminum trans shield in my powerglide car. (Tube car, fabled tunnel). I can't remember anybody, ever, checking any of the SFI stuff I had on the car to legally run nines, not even the driveshaft loop. They would look at the battery hold down, the shutoff, and the belts, that's it.
Gonna put a blanket in my 62, hope it fits. (I know, universal, means it fits nothing, universally)

I forget what my manufacture was. But they sure didn't know that a 727 would explode the front drum. It was designed for something other than a 727. I moved it forward and mounted to 727 ears, Made my own straps to go under. All the aftermarket stuff was built for a bowtie. I was using on my tube car so the tunnel was not an issue. But still PITAS

Mine has a TCI aluminum shield. The early B body has a small tunnel so I did cut it. Goes in and out now without issue. The same shield fit my F body floor with nothing more than a few hammer hits. And those cars never even came with a 727.

I am done with CSR. I am in Florida and they are now saying June. They are polite, but it does not matter how often I call, they always push back the production date. I agree, if you only have two guys working, and the demand is off the chart; it is time to hire some more help! I see Jegs has some different blankets for different trannies and different prices. I don’t want to buy something that does not fit, then I have to send it back. Anyone have a blanket that fits with no modifications? Let me know ASAP. I am ready to pull the trigger.

I see a business opportunity there for you. That they haven't put you or anyone on a wait list makes me wonder if they even make any. Good luck.
