Can this block number be right?

Crawling under drivers side of 440 motor, trying to identify this 440, and with everything in the way including steering column, headers, etc....the best I THINK I'm reading: 9698880• 440
Cant even come close to finding a number like that after searching
 
look for the flat pad in front of the intake manifold driver side

Did that first.....wire brushed all the paint away, numbers are so faint cant read them

Post#10 is where to start. Clean that pad off and see what is stamped. The list I am posting below covers all the BB engines..some stamps you would never see on a 440. Also look at the damper..that typically will tell if its internally balance w a forged crank or external with a cast. IMHO there were no bad 440s.

..would that make this 440 not a desirable one
All 440 blocks are desireable. They havent made them for regular production since 1978. Maybe not a gold mine, but still desireable................
