I'm installing a Pertronix Ignitor in my '67GTX/440. They recommend bypassing the ballast resistor. How do I do that? Go easy on me...I'm new to this stuff!
Thanks,

Purchase (2) of these connectors, install (1) on each terminal of ballast resistor. And next make a short cable with female tab connectors and jumper the ballast resistor. Note that this method will retain all of factory wiring, no cutting required so U can return back to the origional OE wiring layout if ever desired. The connectors are available on line or from Napa.
Just my $0.02...

Oh, I like that!View attachment 1650120 Yepper ..... That's the way to do it. You can't tell from stock.
Just make sure the coil you intend to use is compatible. The Pertronix unit just switches the coil on/off. Consider using their coil....if in doubt, call Pertronix and ask......I'm installing a Pertronix Ignitor in my '67GTX/440. They recommend bypassing the ballast resistor. How do I do that? The coil will now get the full 12 volts.Hoping to not sound like too much of an idiot, why exactly are we jumping the ballast? My car has the ballast jumpered out by the PO. its one of the things I was going to fix up. (the job ids not very well done)
So that the coil has higher output voltage.. But depends upon the entire ignition system and matched components including ECU and distributor..The coil will now get the full 12 volts.
Very simple... for a Pertronics conversion, just remove the resistor, solder in a solid insulated wire from one terminal to the other in the back side, then re-install. That will maintain the stock look. Make sure you replace your coil with one compatible with a 12 volt system.I'm installing a Pertronix Ignitor in my '67GTX/440.
