Remember that great Flowmaster sound?

How about this one?

I have a hankering for that traditional Flowmaster sound.

I have a 53072 (3" in/out, 70 series big block) on my dually, barely louder than stock.
I have a pair of 53553 on my 62, (3.5 in/out, 50 series big block) great sound, no drone. A HUGE muffler!
But BOTH of these mufflers are now $225-260 each. I sure didn't pay that for em
I guess my point is... id bet you will be MUCH happier with the three chamber 50 series. The 40 and 44 series two chamber have a well deserved rep as too-loud drone monsters.

I put the 40 series flowmaster's on my GTX after I installed the headers. Sounded a lot better than the stainless Dynomax that were on previously.

I originally went stainless steel for longevity....but had to compromise on sound - they can be a bit hollow or tinny sounding at times. A friend once told me I sounded like a dirty old HQ Holden tearing up the road.....not a compliment in any shape or form.

I know that some people equate the Flowmaster sound with the Mustang 5.0 cars of the 80s.
I had them on the Charger from 2003 to around 2012. I have Welded Ultra Flo mufflers now and am not all that happy with them. I'd like a bit more cackle.

Flowmasters will give a nice 80's style burble.

I liked the way my 80s 5.0 sounded!

Me too!
I drove from here to Southern CA in 2011 for the first time. I had Flowmasters but no sound deadening in the car, no frame connectors either. The road noise wasn't bad but I was tempted by the HP gains some claimed from the Ultra Flos. I won't say the car feels too tame but it just doesn't sound that great with the sharps out of the exhaust tone.
I wonder at what RPM point that the Flowmasters start to be a restriction. I shift before 6000 anyway.

I ran 10 series on my fury for several years.
"What was that, sorry, I can't hear you"
Loved the tone though.
Watch the engine masters episodes about mufflers if you haven't. Gives you more data to make your decision

I’ve used both on the GTX, the Delta 50’s sound good with a lot less drone inside the car than the 40’s had…

Flowmaster 40's make all of 'em sound the same and are drone monsters to boot...

They have a whole series of these too. I've been wondering about them for my GTX. Made by Walker.

In my humble opinion.....
Considering the current price of the flowmasters I have, (the ones on my 62 are now over $500/pair) the dynomax ultra flow welded would be a no-brainer, if I had to do it over again.

On top of that the Dynomax's are stainless, unlike the Flowmaster's just being steel.

Are these the Flowmaster 50's? They sound great in the clip! Any drone or other downsides? Thx

Yes, 3” Delta 50’s. It had 2.5” until last winter, the sound is a little deeper but otherwise very similar. There’s still some drone but nothing like the super 40’s…

I put Flowmaster 44 mufflers on my wife's Challenger and the passenger's side one started rattling when the car was cold. The baffles had broken loose. It would stop rattling once the car warmed up to temperature. I replaced the right one, then the left one started rattling just like the other side did. Now I have to replace it too. I bet after I replace that one the resonators will start doing the same thing.

I bought 3" glass packs for my '65.... I hate that tinny sound from those chambered mufflers.

Against my better judgement I entered my '80-something Thunderbird in a muffler rapping contest at a local show. Had a pair of $15 steel packs on it...I won!!!!

Flow master 40’s we’re too loud and I lost some hearing (per my doctor)
