I should try to make a video on how noisy the engine is. It has Howards roller lifters and Harland Sharp roller rockers. The HS rockers are for Edelbrock and Trick Flow heads. I have the Trick Flow PP240 heads. This is on a stroked 440. The engine clacks like a diesel at idle, but goes away with RPM. I am thinking the lifters may have noisy tie bars, or the rockers could the culprits. I have set preload on the lifters from zero to 1 full turn, no change in the noise. No soft lifters that I can find. Rockers have been set up for the correct end play as per the instructions. I have just been living with it for the last few years. Noise has never changed from the first start till now.

What’s the item number of the Howards roller lifters?

I heard Morel makes Howards roller lifters.

What cam? Some cam profiles are noisy. It may have nothing to do with lifters or rockers.

I would try 1 3/4 turns. never run hyd lifters with no preload.

I’ve found that Harland sharps can hit the baffle in some valve covers. Especially factory ones. I drill 1/2” holes in baffles to clearance them. The shiny spot tells you where to drill.
