Long story short, the wrong Milodon oil pan was imported into the UK for me. I've got the 31581 Pro touring pan that has the external pick up option instead of the 31580 internal pickup, and given the hassle and cost to return, not to mention how much I'd be out of pocket by the time all is said and done, I figured, why not make the best of it, and upgrade to the full external oil system?

I already have the Mellings high volume oil pump, the longer oil pump drive shaft, and seeing as the have oil pan, the way I see it, I only need the 21215 oil pump cover with AN-12 port, an AN -12 oil line, and longer bolts to bolt the cover through the pump and into the block. Is this correct?

I ask because the single line pump "kit" is $475.95 before shipping, whereas I can pick up the 21215 oil pump cover for $360 and get the AN -12 Line and fixings, and longer bolts over here in the UK.

Sounds like a lot of effort, I know, but with Milodon saying that the full kit is on back order until the end of July at the earliest, it makes sense to me to just get the cover, and cobble together the rest over here...

Let me know your thoughts

I run the single lines system all the time.

Milodon says it is fine to 7500RPM and it is
a big improvement over the internal system.

Do you have headers? Mine does not fit with the headers.

A big part of why I want to go for it over chopping out the pickup that's welded into the pan and capping off the AN-12 port

I am using the 35180 with a 1/2" internal pickup. You just need the pump that you have and the longer auxillary
shaft to drive it. You don't need an expensive cover or hose. You can get a stock diameter pickup tube from Milodon
instead of going with the 1/2" like I did to make it easier. If you are going to spin your engine up around 7k, you
may want to go with the 1/2" pickup. Less junk to buy and less stuff to leak and no clearance problems.

Unfortunately I have the 31581 which is external pickup only hence the need for the pump cover and hose. The 440 source one looks to be a superior product, and at $160 cheaper than the Milodon looks to be the way I'll go.

It is a pain to get the pickup hose to connect to the pump, fairly tight but with patience it’s doable. I’ve run mine for 3 or 4 years now with no problems

I'm sorry, I would plug the hole and buy an internal pickup and be done with it.
That hole that your hose is connected to is a multi-purpose hole. Yours has a pickup
at the bottom. Mine is blank and they explain that it's a drain for a turbocharger oil
drain. If you are going to race it, you have to get all crazy. If not, you're adding
complexity to the mix. The most important thing for me was the high volume pump
and road clearance. No racing!

The Melling HV pump takes the stock oil drive not a longer one. 6-5/16” under the gear, Milodon 21505 or 21525 if you need bronze gear.

Here are some shots of mine. The cover was made a few years back by "Muscle Motors". My headers are "Dougs" D452. The line is VERY close to the header. After these photos I swapped the straight connector at the pan for a 45* to take that big loop out of the line and to shorten it a bit. I also bent the dipstick tube to get a tad more clearance. Keep in mind this also has to clear your steering box.

I wish I'd had one of the old Milodon plates that go between the pump and block to see if that would have worked better - or the pump portion (both shown in the last photo.

The drain hole zyzzyx speaks of is on the other side of the pan !! Be sure to seal that with PLENTY of teflon TAPE. It is not a tapered plug and the full oil level is above that plug so if not well sealed it will leak like a seive !

a rear pan pick up location.
??? More photos please !!!

Yes that 440Source cover is pretty and cheap ... I bought one of their pump covers a few years back and there was a lot of slop in the relief valve. I would estimate the bore to have been about .030 larger than the valve. I never ran it for fear of it bleeding off pressure. If you were going that route it would be worth asking them about that first.

I run the Milodon Cover with the rear entry.
I could not use side entry because of clearance.

I have several systems and individual pieces spare i
you need one. I would sell them 1/2 price of new.

I too had issues with the 440 source part with erratic
oil pressure.

Rear entry does not fit/work with 383/400/440 stock mounts. The rear entry was designed for the hemi. The side entry isn't the greatest but that's all that will work with a big block.
