Hey everyone, I wanted to ask about parts to the rear axle for my 67 Charger.

I'm in the process of doing a rear disk brake conversion and want to make sure I'm not missing any parts, and which parts are which so I can replace anything that needs to be replaced.

So the thing that I have my finger on is metal on the one side but it feels like it might be plastic on the other side that is black. If anyone can tell me if this the whole thing is some kind of gasket or if just the black side is I would be incredibly grateful.

The thing that is on its own on the red background is a gasket, unless I missed my guess and I was hoping someone can tell me if this gasket and sealing kit is what I need to replace the gaskets on the axles. Also if there's a different kit that anyone can recommend that would be awesome too.

Now while I was googling gaskets I ran across these bearing retainer plates and and need to know if I need these for when I reinstall the axles.

For the last couple of things, there were only two nuts on the axle flange and I need to know if these are what I need to replace them, or if someone can recommend some, or if you can tell me regular nuts of the right size from my local hardware store will be ok.

Finally, I just wanted to check if using brake cleaner or something and cleaning up all the rusty stuff is something I should do?

Now just for clarity, everything that's in the pictures is what came off with the axle. So if there's anything else someone can recommend I do before putting the axle back on or if there are parts missing that I need to get would be greatly appreciated.

Just a foam gasket on the retainer plate.
Beware some rear disc brake conversions require you to replace the axle bearings with non adjustable “green” bearings.
If it were me I would consult and source everything from Drdiff , that way you know everything will work together with no issues.

First pic is axle retaining plate. Gasket on the housing facing side. The gasket kit you posted should be what you need.

The link you posted with the retainer and adjuster...should be on the other side of your axle. This is an 8 3/4, correct?

Earlier taper axle 8 3/4" rear ends used shims under the retainers, not an adjuster, so both sides looked identical.

Can you get a picture of the other side?

You do not need these unless you switch back to tapered roller bearings, it appears someone already installed the green bearings.

If you are referring to the casting to axle housing nuts, they are 3/8"NF. Oem are locking as I recall but, straight thread nut will do the job.

Any common grease solvent will clean your parts (along with elbow grease). The rust can be manually or chemically removed.

I would replace the bearings while I was in there. The green bearings you have aren't that expensive.

Much appreciated and I completely understand. The rear disk brake kit is one from JEGS and nowhere in the description of the kit does it say anything about only being compatible with a particular type of wheel bearing. I did reach out to them just to make sure and now I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

Much appreciated. While I was looking at replacement bearings and looking for videos on how to take the current ones off I was able to see the difference and saw that the green type bearings are meant to eliminate the need for the retaining plate.

So here's what the other side looks like. Like others have said, it looks like it already has the green bearings installed and the description of the bearings said they're meant to eliminate the need for the retaining plate.

There is no endplay in a ball bearing but, a tapered roller must be adjusted for proper life, hence the OEM adjustable retaining plate on one side (right side). Left is fixed. Tapered roller bearings are optimal for side thrust, balls are meant for radial thrust with light side thrust

Basically, is the caliper a fixed position with the pistons on both sides of the caliper? Or is it a floating single piston caliper. The latter would lend itself to factory bearings

So these are the calipers. From the instructions, it gets bolted to brackets and stays in one place

So does that mean I need different bearings? If it does, can you point me in the direction of a kit that has everything I need?
No, the ball bearings will work. They are just not optimal for hard cornering.

Much appreciated! So if I understand correctly, the bearings that are already on the axle shafts are "Green bearings" and I can use the rear disk brake conversion kit that I have without having to get different bearings or any other parts?

Just to make sure I understand everything correctly, "Green bearings " are a type of "ball bearing"? Additionally, if I were to replace the bearings and seals as suggested, the kits and parts linked below are everything I need to do that?

I apologize for being dim and for what is me probably asking the same question over and over and probably just not getting it, but I'm a layman when it comes to all this stuff and since I have to do a lot of the work myself I'm trying to take things slow and make sure I have everything I need to do this stuff correctly the first time.

I should also add, that I called JEGS to get technical advice and make sure I have everything so I can use this kit and the person I spoke to didn't exactly fill me with confidence that they know what they're doing. I called their expert help line and all they did was look up the part number for the kit I have and read through what the part description says which I did when I bought the kit.

If there's any other parts, advice, videos, or things that you can point me in the direction of I would eternally grateful!

I believe the "green bearing" tag was because of the green grease seals used originally on the bearings. They were ball bearings.
Some disc kits needed the fixed rotor position they provided; others did not, so the OEM tapered design would work.
Mike

Ok cool, but I'm not sure I'm following everything. So are you saying that the disk brake conversion kit I have will work with both green bearings or original type tapered bearings? If I can use either type of bearing which one of links that I posted has everything I need to replace the bearings that are on it now?

It appears all 3 bearings you show are all ball bearings so, any should work with the calipers you chose.
