I have a 67 Coronet with a 1979 440 in it. I am looking at installing an intake on it. So trying to figure out how much room I have under the hood. So trying to find out measurements.
So I google stock intake manifold height on 440 engine and they gave me a measurement of 1 3/4 inches. I also found on the internet how to measure it yourself. So from the base of the carberator lay a flat edge out to the front of the engine block deck, so I am assuming the cross over bridge between your heads where your valley pan bolts onto and I came up with 3 inches.
Any ways I am looking at a Performer RPM 7193 which they say is at 5 3/8 height or a Performer 2191 which they say is a 4 5/16 height Right now with the stock intake and my carb I have 4 inches between the top of the card where the aircleaner sits to my hood. How much room will I have to fit an air cleaner if I go with any one of these manifolds.
I am just not sure if my measurements are correct on the stock intake. Now that being said it is a stock 440 intake but it is not the right intake for the 79 block because it does not have to ports to line up with the heat ports coming off the head. So I am assuming its an earlier 70's intake. Is there another way to measure these things or am I doing it right?
Thanks
Bruce
