Evan’s waterless coolant

I’ve had the cooling system thoroughly flushed and treated 2 times, so as to properly use Evan’s waterless coolant in my 1967Charger 383 4 barrel engine.All components of the cooling system are new including a 26 inch large tube aluminum radiator, new flow kooler water pump,new fan clutch and a new160 thermostat.For now I have the heater core bypassed . I‘ve bleed the air out of the cooling system.When I start out the engine is warm and the temperature is normal,after driving about 40 miles on the highway the temperature starts to go up to between half and three quarters,then I get off the highway and drive on a rural road and then the temperature goes back down to normal,about 1/3 of the way up on the factory gauge. Why is the engine temperature fluctuating like this.Please advise,Thanks Bob

Are you running a shroud? Factory gauge? If so verify its accuracy.
 
First, I wouldn't use Evans "coolant" in anything. It is wasted money when for close to 100 years, ethylene glycol based coolants have worked for a fraction of the price.
I'm not a purist but in most cases, duplicating the factory setup results in reliable service. 26" radiator, a fan shroud, 7 blade fan with a thermo drive clutch and position the fan half way into the shroud. This has worked for decades.
Evans can't be mixed with anything, including water. It is expensive. I wouldn't use it if were free.
If a gauge is functioning properly, the only reason that I figure for it to fluctuate is a low coolant level where the sending unit temporarily sees open voids where no coolant passes through, only steam. That will register a higher number.
 
Quality of thermostats these days is poor, it could be a restriction by not opening enough....or possibly the lower hose is getting sucked shut at the higher rpms down the highway?
We've found in some performance applications...Evans is far superior to anything else.
 
Project Farm You Tube did a recent test on coolant improvers. From memory, Evans did NOT do well.

I always run a spring in the lower hose to take collapsing bottom hose factor out of the equation
 
Do not remember why, but someone that I knew had that Evans stuff in his Hemi hot rod. About half way through the Hot Rod Power Tour, he dumped it and went back to regular green antifreeze.
 
I am not fond of gauges that say good bad or indifferent.
My gauge tells me the temperature in numbers.
Most of the time it shows 180, which is where the thermostat opens. Up a hill, or when more work is being done from the engine, it might go to 190.
We went to the Arctic ocean with the rad half blocked, and all original gear 77 gear. Since then we have a new core and water pump. None of the original dash works, so I have new guages for coolant temp, oil pressure, volts, fuel.

I bought a new rad for my 78 Chev farm truck, $125. New original type core for the Dodge, about $1000. Muct have been a few years in between. The Dodge rad is much more substantial than the Chev. Without the shroud the Chev would have overheated quite easily.
