I took my K-member off to finish cleaning the engine compartment and thought I'd reach out to a local guy to see how much it would be to powder coat it. He said $600. I don't want to spend that kind of money so I'm looking for suggestions. What should I use on my K-member? Thanks!

black epoxy primer.....or epoxy primer/black paint

I like to rough it up with a sandblast, but epoxy seems to stick to everything

I blast with glass, hang and spray gun with a mix of flat and gloss Tremclad that's as factory correct as I can..

Find another powder coater? I had my 65 fury front subframe chemically stripped and powder coated for less than that. Its a lot bigger than your k frame!

Dang, and you did all the hard work. I had a 74 done including blasting for $300. As said above I would epoxy/paint at this point.

600$ for powder coating is a complete rip off. You should be able to get it done for less than 200$. My state is a rip off for EPA, sandblasting is expensive here. That K Frame looks ready to coat to me.

Epoxy primer and single stage urethene. It lasts fovever. My Challenger was done in 2004, racecar 2012. Still looks the same today. The picture of the Challenger was taken 15 years after it was built. Except the exhaust and fuel tank every part you see was painted in single stage urethene.

I had mine powder coated. Nothing is more durable, uuless you plate it first. The OP's quoted price seems a bit high. Shop around.
I have had my eye out for a reasonably priced pizza oven and do my own stuff.
I know black is sure pretty, but in reality, IMO it's like black underwear, and that is all I am going to say on the matter.

First, I like black underwear Second, thanks for the suggestions. I’ll go with epoxy primer and then black. Thanks!

I paid about $150 to powder coat the K Member, it would probably cost more to have it blasted and paint it myself given the price of paint materials these days...

That looks like a Alterkation unit for a slant 6? With extra reinforcement.
