I'm considering selling my dad's old Superbird...

I am having bad health issues and may not ever be able to work on cars again and am coming to the realization that I need to get rid of some of them....

Dad bought the bird from its original owner back in 82 and has owned it since... It had a little over 20k on the odometer and now has 21,742 original miles... It was repainted in the mid 80's... It's never been restored, but can use some touch up from sitting over the years, but is in good condition and very solid, never rusted...

I may try to track down the original owner and see if he's still interested in getting it back... He's mentioned to my bother over the years that he regrets letting it go...

Since it was dad's favorite car and has alot of sentimental value, I will only let it go if the price is right... I have a couple people nibbling, but want to see if there are any others interested or what a fair price is for it....

Sad to see, but like many things I guess... it is what it is. Good luck.

Probably gonna get toasted here being in the wrong place, as it will be considered a sale post. Current day... as in today and similar selling in hours.. $200k US is too low...

Best of luck on your tough decision. It is worth a lot of money and I'm sure your dad would tell you to sell it. But I would have a tough time getting rid of anything my dad loved.

It's cool but us mere mortals won't be able to afford it. Hagerty says $106K in fair condition. $144 in good condition. Good luck, it will make someone's dreams come true, I hope not some collector that is adding his 7th Superbird to his collection.

Is it a V-code 440-6 or was the six pack added?

do you have the buildsheet and/or window sticker? Does it still have fender tag ? (sometimes lost/removed during repaints)

We'll let that slide for a bit. If you get to deciding on selling...please change this to a For Sale (or a What's it Worth) with all the relevant details.

It's a decent looking car in the pictures....definitely one worth looking at. :)

I believe it's a what's its worth and more than anything a cathartic exhale and a self reality acceptance.

Can't take it with you.
Sentimental value normally is not $$$ value.
So you are really just looking for highest offer.
It will need to be inspected and authenticated by a reputable company when you start to ask for high numbers.
Good luck with your health.

Hard to put a value with so little information, but as @dadsbee said, it's sad to hear see you sell it. I sill have my grandparents last new cars, but with my current health issues those two cars would be the last to go.
A 21K mile, 2 owner, possible V code Superbird would be tuff for any real car guy to let go of. Circumstances do come up needing major cash and I truly hope you are not in that position.
I'm not interested but do have a few pertinent questions.
1. Is it a real V code Superbird?
2. Is it in survivor condition, repaint tells me no?
3. What paper work is with the car?
4. Are all original parts with it?
5. Are the Vin,fender tag, and build sheet still in place?
My estimate on what you provided is $140 to $160 thousand, but the correct answers these questions and others could put it well above $200K. Just one opinion.

Me knows nothing, but I think I would have the car professionally appraised and go from there.
Then you know exactly where you stand. You need to come to grips with letting someone else
care for it from now on. Contact Jay Leno and ask if he's interested! No joke. Someone will care
for it better than you are able. Take lots of pictures and remember! Good luck with the cars!

A Superbird was sold at an estate sale for $210,000 it was posted here, can't find it. Your car looks better MO should get more. Not sure if it was a 383 or a 440 but a real 6pac would be more money easy. If your car doesn't have hidden rust it's a winner. If your car is a 6pac and has buildsheet and fender tag maybe $250k MO.

Market changes. There's enough recent sales and people to ask where I don't think and appraisal would be that beneficial.

Appraisers are good for insurance claims, estate values, net worth financial evaluations, and people that are clueless. It doesn't seem the OP is either of those.

Also, there's plenty of these for sale. If Jay Leno wanted one, he'd buy one. He gets tons of junk emails from people trying get lucky assuming he'd pay top dollar. Let the poor guy be and enjoy himself.

That estate Superbird was a 4 spd Dana car. That may be close or same as 440-6-auto money.

I believe that estate car was running driving? Not sure is the OP's 'Bird is right now?

The original owner getting it back would be a happy ending if it has to go.
My Dad left me an old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
