Alan's 1970 Charger Restoration

Why does it always look like a simple process when someone else is doing a trans rebuild?

Well the disassembly wasn't bad. Haven't really started the rebuild of all the components. I'm going slow and steady as it's my first time I had one plug break off the head (holds the kickdown lever pin in place). Spent several hours carefully drilling, using an easy-out, and applying heat to get it removed

Got the housing cleaned and painted Started on pump and the bushing is nicked. Ordered the bushing kit, so will need to wait for it to arrive. The reaction shaft bushing is discolored, but doesn't feel worn/grooved.

I'm not pairing the inside of the bell housing - no one should see that.

Housing, pan and pump are cleaned and painted. The pump and front clutch pack are disassembled, but didn't want to disassemble too many subassemblies at once. The bushings should arrive today, so I can get back at it.

Also ordered the brake lines (steel OE) from Inline Tube. The rear axle / diff is next after I rebuild the transmission. I need to mock up the brake lines with the missing/replacement brackets on the rear axle and weld them on while it's empty and before paint (or power coating).

Transmission is almost done. The shop is spending a lot of time on gaps and body lines. I'm trying to be patient - plenty to do in the meantime. The axle and differential are next up.

A couple pics to add as an update. It's In the final bodywork stage at the shop. Almost ready to reassemble the rear axle. I feel like I'm racing the clock - get everything ready for reassembly before the body is done.

I've scheduled a weekend in December to have my brother come over from Charlotte (1.5.hrs) to help bolt the transmission to the engine and mount it all to the K-frame dolly. I could do it on my own, but figured an experienced set of eyes (he's a mechanic) would be good and safer as it's a large / heavy assembly. I'm prepping everything so we can attach all the accessories, brackets, and belts, to have it 100% ready to install.
