Need some opinions on wheel choices

IMO 17/18's need a 27-28" tire to avoid the rubber band look. That's what I have done

Yeah my rear tires are 285/40-18s, and are 27” tall. I wish there was an 18” tire that was 28” tall or so, while maintaining the width. I tried a 285/50-18 but they were 29.2” tall and looked like they came off of an SUV.

Cragars are number 1 for me like on my red Charger, then grey or polished torque thrust wheels like on my red Challenger and even Keystones are my favorite old school wheels. I like the Weld Magnum 2.0's on my blue Challenger for a more race look.

I think Keystone Klassics would look good on it. I also am a big fan of Centerlines and Spyder Wheels, Spyders might be a little hard to find though. But if I were you, put the tire and wheel combo on it that YOU like
 
US Mags Indy 101 slots are beautiful, that's what's going to replace these fugly dated 80's wheels on Grendel. But I also love Centerlines and have them on my '86 GN. I don't like typical 5-spoke designs, they're all too common for my tastes, but if you can't afford the Daddy Warbucks fancy billet wheels, your options really boil down to not very much.

Aluminum slots look good on about anything, but they have that day 2 vibe unless you shine them up like chrome. I like gearhead stuff, so I like them shiny or in 30 year old "oxidzed matte" lol.

Cragers and Magnums are everywhere on these cars, I think they might be the default for the cars that end up on classic car lots. They look good, you will have to decide if you want to look like everyone else or not though. They do look good, don;t get me wrong.

I saw a green car with these wheels at Iola a couple years ago but I don't know what they are called, I just spent ten minutes trying to find an image of them online:

They did a 15x7 in front and 15 by at least 8 if not 9 in the back. Looked tough.

I think vector wheels look cool, but I could also see getting tired of looking at them after while and they are a sort of love/hate type wheel. I think I have always preferred the "turbine" type like that on 70's and 80's pick up trucks.

Whatever you pick, I would stick to something that is more solid than holes. A 5 spoke wheel looks good but it needs to be "fat spokes" not modern skinny ones. I think the Cragers or Torque Thrust type are about as skinny as I would ever go on an older car. Keystones work with the skinny looking spokes because the broad blacked out section still draws the eye away from the brakes behind the wheel.
One thing I am not as big a fan of is the solid centerlines, they look like dedicated drag strip wheels to me, but I am probably biased as I had them on a car years back that was basically built for that sort of thing and the image sticks with me. I strongly prefer black D-windows with white letter tires for a more street/gearhead look. Cragers and Magnums are for show cars, D windows are for street cars, if that makes sense.
