I'm thinking way out ahead on my project. It is a 69 Charger, it will have a white interior, it is a 440 R/T.
I read some where that Plum Crazy could be ordered from the special order department, and it may have been later in the model year. Does someone know if that was true?
I also know color is a personal choice, but just looking for some outside input.

Sorry if this has been hashed out way to many times in the past, but thanks for your thoughts.

I PERSONALLY, don't think the pre-70 b- bodies suited Plum Crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love the color, but I think the factory got it right putting it on the A and E bodies. Would I ever paint an early B-body purple, absoluyely - but it would be a much darker shade.

I've never heard before that Plum Crazy could be special ordered in 1969, or seen a car that was. But that said, you could order anything with "99" paint code and select colors that were not available as a standard 69 Charger color. Seeing as how FC7 was being developed for the 1970 year concurrent with the 69 Charger rolling down the assembly line, I suppose it is conceivable that if you knew this you could order one in FC7 under the 99 paint code.

Otherwise, I generally agree with gkent. I don't personally care for purple on pre-70 Mopars unless it is a full custom car build of some kind.

My cousin special-ordered a 1970 Charger R/T in Plum Crazy with a white vinyl top and interior. Last time I saw it, still had under 30,000 miles.

What was your original color? I love it on my BEE. It was a 70 color. @Richard Cranium just did his the way you were talking.

I find that Purple looks funny on 1969 and earlier cars.
I agree. It seems like it is over done these days, but it was also one of the most popular colors of 1970 due to being a new unseen color back in those days. Unfortunately, it blistered and peeled and faded relatively easily from new and many cars got repainted either back to purple again or to another color to make them more appealing to more of a crowd of buyers for resale in a different non-such flamboyant color.
These days I wouldn't mind have a factory FC7 purple car.
My buddy has owned this factory FC7 Challenger T/A since like 1981. The paint is from 1989. Here it is parked next to my red Challenger.

I think it looks good on the GTX - mainly because of the black accents. I don't think the whole car would have looked good in purple. I don't care for white accents on anything. JUST MY OPINION! Plumb Crazy on an e-body is just stunning !

Yes plum crazy is way overdone! So is sublime green, and banana yellow. Etc.

Don't paint a 1969 Charger R/T car plum crazy, or any other 1970 color, it looks silly.

I have a 69 coronet that was F8 green, lotsa folks change from that, so the prior owner painted it T5 copper a long time ago. Now it looks like faded original paint, which is just fine. It was a stock color. Now if he painted it plum crazy it would just look wrong today.

I have a retired neighbor he had a used car lot in the 70"s. He got in a nice 70 Charger RT in plum crazy. Could not sell the car. So he had it painted banana yellow and it sold the first weekend. People were tired of purple back then.

Paint it turquoise. That’s a sharp 69 color that’s rarely seen and will look great with a white interior.

1970 was the first year that Mopar offered purple, but the purple was available prior to that. Ditzler had a purple colour so it should have been available as a 999 option.

For example, in 1969 the Rocky Mountain Insurance Company, in Calgary Alberta, ordered 98 Cougar XR7's in that Ditzler paint as special order WT9083, for a bonus to employees with outstanding performance.
