Next time dont stand so close, that paint does work and does look like the original texture. JMO

well, Walmart and Tractor Supply didn't have it, so I had to travel double to Home Depot.......

the first can stopped spraying half way through :wtf: ....... so back to Home Depot :BangHead:

so 2 cans in, 2 trips to HD, and wasted time.......

I know when to cut my losses and change direction....... Rustolem  JFC!!!

I knew I was poking the bear.

when I put my AMX together, it was a black interior..... AMC calls it Charcoal

anyway, I remember making a dark, milky, kinda gray for the dash frame; cause it wasn't really black, and it was pretty flat......looked real good

I might do something similar here. I'm gonna take a closer look at that other dash frame..... I read about the rustoleum textured and just ran with it, I should know better

well, I suppose it was me who dropped the ball........ I deferred to the internet, when I have all the evidence and answers right here

much like the AMX, VERY much like the AMX....... the dash frame and steering column are actually a very flat grey, and it has a little fine metallic in it; it's not even close to black. and it is SMOOTH...... not glass clear coat smooth, but sort of equal to 1500 grit as opposed to the 180 grit finish with the rustoleum.

I don't need a 100% match; but it will be very similar, and flat, and smooth

When I locate my phone, I will back it all up with pics ........ maybe the bear needed to be poked :elmer:

Hey Boo Boo all I want is a picnic basket! Keep an eye out for Mr Ranger!

The whole problem is when you get the wrong sheen on the dash, the car looks clowny.
Hope I worded that correctly

that does look good ^^^^^

it could be a funky batch; the first can did stop spraying, like a wad of texture made a clog.... and it's just too "sandy"

color wise, the textured paint is a match........ but this crap is rough to the touch, and what ever they put in it doesn't lay down uniformly; and that is what causes the blotch. Even dusting other paint over it doesn't make the blotch go away.

it's certainly not a disaster, I was just all pumped about getting the dash assembled. It's an easy fix.

Did you shake it enough?? :monkeyleft:

maybe too much ...... should have left that sandy crap on the bottom

this maybe a case of information overload........

I should have just looked closely at the other dash and my column; and mixed up something to match.....that's how I usually roll

had hands on the car upwards of ten hours today, no wasted motion...... soaked 4 shirts........ pretty sure I'm useless tomorrow

racked and tacked the passenger door....... dialed in the alignment...... did a little nip and tuck around the edges

also fixed a bunch of small dents on the hood for at least the 4th time.......maybe 5

I took a huge bite out of it, it was a good day :thankyou:

I live in Southern Alabama our summers are particularly brutal. A year ago or so the wife convinced me to install a Mini split AC in my 3 car garage. Wow what a difference! it is great to go out there and work in the a/c for summer and heat for winter.
Ya know while writing this i just realized that she actually just figured a way to get me out of the house!! Dang!

Wife HAD to convince you to A/C your garage! :BangHead::BangHead:
DO NOT TRADE HER IN.

I found the answer in my cabinet....... little of this, and some of that; and some flattened clear coat...... it closely matches what I found on the other dash and my steering column; areas not worn or sun baked......I even left a little texture in it

I'm happy with it.......once the dash it together it becomes an after thought. I need to focus my attention elsewhere. I'll take it as a win. Thank You everyone for your unwavering support during this stressful time. :D
