Updating the Super Street Mopar

Since the hoses showed up on Friday when I was in Van Nuys for Spring Fling, I finished fitting the water lines up yesterday. With a wedge between one hard line and the exhaust, I made an L bracket to hold that line to the engine. From there, welded them all up. Darren came by later and picked up the exhaust. He's going to wrap it. Today I prepped up the area behind the radiator so I could weld in a grille I made. The original plan was to punch a grip of holes in the panel, then dimple die them. A hot rod friend was by a week or so ago and pointed out that it needed a larger open area behind the radiator otherwise the air would stall. So I cut a big hole there instead. I also shot some paint on the plenum/TB adaptor I made.

Yesterday I sheared up some aluminum for the dash. Got the instrument section bent then marked out for the screw holes. Today put the holes in and set some NutSerts in place for the screws. After that, I set one water line in place so I could put the throttle body elbow on. Water line goes below the elbow and since it's long, can't get it in place otherwise. Assembled the throttle body, 90* elbow, airflow sensor and filter unit. From there started putting clamps onto the radiator hoses. Forgot to bead one line as you can see. Will take care of that after I get the tool back.

Today I got the little bead roller back from Darren and took care of that one tube. After that, got the rest of the pieces in, clamps installed and tightened up. Radiator is in. I had Darren order up some vacuum caps to put on the bolt end of the clamps. This will help protect flesh.

Made some templates for the dash so goodies can get placed where needed. Made the glovebox lid.

Today I shot some high temp black on portions of the exhaust. In between coats, I laid out the dash arrangement, knocked holes in, then set pieces in place. Need one more light, for the CEL, and Saturday the two USB units will show up.

Still a flat 4 but liquid cooled now and 3X+ the power. Even w/o a turbo.
This is where I got the 1st Optrel. Amazon has them too.

Optrel® Vegaview 2.5

That thing looks like a space helmet :) I don't weld enough to spring for that.. but will find something. Mine is like you can have too dark or too light.. enjoy :)

They do look somewhat futuristic. I personally don't care for the cartooned helmets that are most of what you see getting sold. Don't need to look cool while welding, just need to SEE!

The USB units showed up today. Those got installed along with a red CEL. From there, put it in. Got the exhaust in for the final time with gaskets plus stover lock nuts on the head studs[ with some antisieze on the threads].

Done with the Thang for now. He'll get it, sometime, to a place in the area that specializes in Sooby conversions for v-dubs.
